Westie i must confess i dont look at L2 much. I have it as premium member but do u really find it insightful? i for one bypass L2 as i always trade at market price ...do not put my orders in the books. You wrote L2 looked weak today is there any way i can see that? one tool i could add to my toolbox i guess. cheers

For the chartists out there. I often use the McGuinley Dynamic ( pink line on my chart( as a benchmark for entering (long) or exiting (selling) a position. on the 11th January the 3 day Double Exponential Moving Average (thin brown line) crossed to the downside of the 34 day Double Exponential Moving Average (red line) as did the 8DEMA 2 days later (blue line) crossing the 34DEMA (red line).... when a faster moving average crosses to the downside of a slower moving average thats an indication to exit. The reverse is true for a cross up over the longer average. on the 19th Jan the sp crossed the benchmark McGuinley to the downside confirming the downward trend we see. ONLY until i see the SP crossover the pink line (McGuinley) will i consider entering. Just my thought BUT it does confirm BP is downtrending but maybe close to be oversold on the oscillators. on a cautionary note ... there is a resistance at the 199/200 level which may stall an entry at 198.+ if it breaches the resistance then the chart looks good set up. borgy

I wonder why the sudden sell off last week only to rise back again .. you'd think investors wouldn't want to pass on the Bonus Divi. I'm expecting a good payout.. whenever that is.

Nice to see a sea of blue trades since 13:49 today. The previous days were masked by rather chunky and sizeable sell orders. could the tide be turning again. I am still holding out for the 21.7p divi ... no mention of it gone X div yet.

Not much being said on here so I thought i would add a piece on what i have been working on last week. for the Chartists out there - the McGuinley Dynamic. I have been testing it recently and its proving to be a good indicator for buying and holding (and ultimately selling)....The McGinley Dynamic looks like a moving average line yet it is a smoothing mechanism for prices that turns out to track far better than any moving average. It greatly avoids whipsaws because the Dynamic Line automatically follows prices in any market fast or slow, it's like a steering mechanism that stays aligned to prices when markets speed up or slows down. I have recently tweaked my charts after a suggestion by a fellow trader over on the GLEN board who suggested in stead of using the EMA 8 and EMA 34 .... to use the DEMA which is basically the Double Exponential Moving Average. It seems to be quicker and more reliable... here is a snap shot of the two charts DEMA 8 / DEMA 34 https://uk.tradingview.com/chart/ZH342BTy/ EMA 8 / EMA 34 https://uk.tradingview.com/chart/EvOXkEtj/ Notice on the DEMA chart how we could have got out much earlier at around 151.... where is on the EMA we would still be in the trade (cross over just about to happen). chart doesnt look too got. still not o/sold ... so may fall further. I am puzzled at this because why would u sell and give up a 21.7p dividend.. are we missing something....

Genty74 ... BT has gapped down too so watch that space too for a rebound. NHmusician ... Yes i do ... we dont want to clutter the charts so when i see the 8 EMA cross down under the 34 it raises an alarm bell and I will normally sell. I can always buy back in if it crosses above again. for swing trading it works and we also use the same set up for scalpiing intra day ... for those who have it for scalping only ... apply the VWAP (works only intraday) and if ever the sp falls below VWAP and the 8 then crosses the 34 Exponential and u also see the RSI coming out of oversold ...then its a strong buy signal.... we do it all the time on Glencore intraday as u dont have to pay stamp duty which eats into your intra day scalps.

vote of confidence with the purchase by the CEO of 200,000 shares at £5.496 this morning... funny world the stock market... good set of results and we spiked then started to fall .....

Good set of results out .. proving that the over reaction to the share price drop was overdone. Hopefully see a blue day today and a continued slow and steady rise in sp...

Genty74. Had a look at SIV just now. There are a couple more shares that have been hit recently NXT and PSON and show similar gap downs on trading statements below expectations. Looking at the charts i would only buy once i see them coming out of the oversold on the RSI ...and the MACD signal crossing positive. I wouldnt try to guess the bottom as all three may fall further before they rise .. so rather than pick the bottom i would wait for confirmation of the sp coming out of the oversold on RSI before making a call. Better still if you can plot the sp with the 8EMA and 34EMA and wait for the 8 to cross the 34 then you are more certain of a possible sustained rise. My chart set up for going longs has 8EMA / 34EMA together with RSI and MACD ... sometimes i also use the SMI (stochastic movement index) .. Borgy.. But I'll add SIV now to my watchlist for a possible rebound. Thanks mate

Did anyone notice the MMs dropped the bid to 143.75 this morning... they are obviously short of shares and shook the tree to trigger some sales... money is flowing back in again and they are now trying to tempt you to sell by raising the Ask price. some positives ... a perfect cup and handle just formed and the 150p resistance has been broken.
