It's hard to think of something more illiberal than CAP. Large land owning producers receive subsidy from the tax payer, the majority of whom are poorer than the protected producers. So we have redistribution from poor to rich, a form of serfdom. On top of the EU has the CU which inflates the price of food for citizens of the EU by imposing tariffs on efficient non EU food producers like the US. So not only are the poor punched in the face to support the producer through a tax they are also kicked up the arse in the form of higher food prices. For the poor food is s far greater proportion of income than for overpaid ppl like me. A more unfair and illiberal system would be hard to design. Ppl who support cap are essentially advocating serfdom.
