RE: AFC Energy's Ammonia Cracker technology!12 Jun 2025 07:46
Constructive, as much as I would like to vote up your posts which are trying to paint afc in a positive light I disagree with your post that electrolyser manufacturers have to worry. I say this from a position where I am not invested in any electrolyser company.
The cost argument doesn’t stack up. Electrolysers make electricity from water available where they are placed. So although the upfront cost may be high it gives you power end to end, I.e from input to output. With AFC’s cracker you have to supply ammonia to it which needs to be manufactured and brought to the system, both of which have a cost to the end customer and and also opens up the question to the colour of the ammonia being supplied to it.
Both crackers and electrolysers have their place. As an example, a remote application such as a quarry or a building site may be best supplied by cracking on site, whereas a gas pipeline by the coast may be best supplied by an electrolyser, dependent on where it is. Remember in the uk we have excess wind power that can support electrolysers.
