Well, April last year we announced the MOU, and by December it had not fallen away, with AB stating;

'We are progressing well on negotiations with Altaaqa for a dealership agreement across the Saudi and MENA regions based on their strong focus on transitioning away from fossil fuels in remote power. Altaaqa's current market leading multi gigawatt fossil-based power generator business across Saudi Arabia and surrounding regions fits very well with our aspirations for targeting the Gulf region for fuel cell deployment.'

It's anyone's guess whether we will be at the point of a signiature + order within the next week or two, but it would make for great publicity for both sides, and something I would imagine they're both keen to press ahead with. Hopefully we will see some units and money exchange hands though, rather than just an announcement that just keeps us guessing. I'd say i'm quietly confident, but then again it might just be hope. The second year of this event. I really hope that due to the publicity it got last season there is a snowball effect where it is even bigger this time around. For me, apart from all of the cars being electric, the way they are powered is by far the most interesting thing about the series. Not that I'm biased or anything, but the fact that the cars are charged by 100% renewable energy is still going to be one of the headlines this year, and what makes it unique. I think with one season under its belt and with this coming in to the second season it is a perfect shop window for our products. Televised, celebrity and heads of state endorsed. I am, upon reflection actually quite excited about what season two will bring. The more this tech is on the tele for all the right reasons, the more big brands will want to align themselves with it. Big brands, possibly like Amazon and Microsoft for data centres. To continue the snowball analogy, sometimes the AFC snowball slows down and turns too slowly and we get frustrated (including myself). On the evidence of the recent announcements (VARD, ABB) and communications (strong pipeline) the snowball is still turning though, and there is still a whole piste in front of it before it runs out of mountain. Bring on season 2 of Extreme E and the publicity it brings with it. DYOR.

Ok Scarpa, perhaps I’ve missed that part about exe approaching afc but my point still stands about profile of AFC. It’s great if they found AFC proactively it must mean they’re out there enough to attract the attention of someone like Alejandro Agag and ABB, one of the largest ev charging companies in the world.

DW - Also there is a massive contradiction in saying AFC don’t put themselves out there enough, and then claiming that ABB / Exe came to them, as if they didn’t put themselves out there enough, how would ABB / Exe have found them (if what you say is true). Also to be ‘found’ by ABB you would already need to have a decent profile. I for one, am very glad ABB ‘found’ AFC, as it could be an absolute game changer. Also AB did sign a hard £4m contract with them that you can’t take away, so you can’t say he’s never achieved anything. Again, not making out he’s a god, yet, but I contest these statements.

DW - I can barely bring myself to respond to this. What do you mean he brought no one in. I just listed a bunch of people he brought in. Also I’ve not seen anything to back up your points about exe or abb coming to AFC. Like I said, I’m by no means his biggest fan, but those statements are a bit much.

Daz, Getting products over the line is David Harvey's responsibility - he's the CTO and comes with a formidable reputation and experience. RE talk about Adam bond sitting there managing the pipeline and pushing deals over the line - he has actually brought in experience in the form of Mark Bailey (Chief Commercial Officer) who has about 30 years experience in the energy industry. Not to mention Tom Pollard, who has come from one of the most successful EV charge point companies in the UK, so the management of the pipeline and and product is actually on other, quite reputable, people that also need to pull through. The team that can get a product over the line, and sell it is right there, just underneath and beside Adam Bond so it's not all on him.

Where I struggle with AB is the difference between what he says and what happens, and the consistency with which things have fallen away in the past. Where AB is responsible is he sets the priorities, and determines what is communicated to investors and how. There's clearly a gap that needs to be filled in the form of a marketing department to support him and the org as a whole. Perhaps that's part of the plan with the 150 heads. I'm clearly not a massive fan of his, but at the same time don't rule out that all it takes is one order and he will be Jesus Christ to the lot of us. Nothing will smash this home like a multiple unit order. It's possible that could be soon. It's possible that could be a year or two away, yet still we persist and still we believe. All IMO. DYOR.

The fact that he chose to reiterate again, just a few days ago, that;

"This contract is just one in a strong pipeline of system sales and lease opportunities which will underpin future revenue growth"

Shows that either he is extremely confident that he is going to follow up on this (This is the second time he has made the exact same claim), or that he says these types of things habitually to keep stringing everyone along. Time will tell. Personally, I can't see how you can say the same thing again twice and not follow up on it, which is why I think that next deal could quite possibly around the corner. But what do I know, remember, he has to face investors at the AGM in a few months time either way.

ExE this weekend - last time they were in the middle east it was followed by the Altaaqa announcement. What a perfect time to announce the MOU has turned in to a commercial sale or lease agreement, or provide an update there. Ceres news is positive in that it shows momentum in the H2 sector - AFC never follows the others perfectly and often lags. IMO. DYOR.

That’s interesting. I wonder if Afc will expand what they’re doing on site this year. All will be revealed in the next few weeks I guess.

They look like they would be an ideal partner now that outdoor events are likely to open back up. I see AB has commented on one of their posts on LinkedIn.

Klunk you might be on to something here, just checked itm power and they seem to be CE marked but Ceres don’t mention it. Plug power on the other hand do mention CE marking, as do Doosan. Nevertheless, as you mention, we don’t even have a single unit in the field yet so I’m sure we have a few months, perhaps a whole year to get this over the line because until then we are likely to only get trial or demo systems out there. Thanks for calling this out though.

Well perhaps that’s just the nature of the beast. I.e because each system is tailored to each customer there’s no ce marking requirement because the partner will get it ce marked? I guess that argument doesn’t work for plant hire companies leasing our equipment and are receiving a final product.

The other consideration is that it is not considered a barrier, more a formality. But it is worth asking the company I guess.

Klunk, surely this would be the first thing a company like ABB would have enquired about. My guess is that either they have it, or don’t need it because there seems to be good enough confidence that these systems will be deployable at scale because why would they even engage with Afc?

Also, how do you know it’s not CE marked?
