Dan - "Anyone who knew what they were doing could have made 5 times their money over the last 2 years".
I know that I have sometimes felt like that myself, and I'm sure a lot of others here have as well. However, don't beat yourself up too much - the truth is that to do that consistently, you would either have to be psychic, or a time traveller, or just very, very lucky ( I'm none of those).
I think that there has been a few occasions where I have made clear mistakes, and I'd like to think I have learned a thing or two along the way, but the old adage about hindsight being a wonderful thing exists for a reason. Looking back at share price movements (either up or down) over a relatively short period, is really not that different to looking at yesterdays horse racing results, and thinking " If only I had put £1000 on horse X, or £500 on horse Y, I could have made a packet". Let me caveat that by saying that over a longer period of time it obviously pays to have knowledge of, or do research on, any particular company or sector.
Anyway, not just here, but in life in general, it's very easy to look back and make a different judgement, using information that you couldn't possibly have had at that moment. That said, I have also made numerous epic blunders (mostly concerning women, money and alcohol) that could, and should, have been easily avoided. Still, that's the price we pay for being human. I'll take that over a world dominated by AI and robots.
