RE: New company tweet6 Mar 2023 12:16
Hi Tyke68
Disease treatment / prevention doesn't work on the basis of - a company "hopes" that they may be able to develop something that could work in "10 years", so everyone else can relax, simply because of failure rate.
Besides, treatment of any complex illness typically requires a multidisciplinary approach, with combination staged treatments, follow-ups, and care plans to suit the individual. When added to the fact that the vast majority of clinical drug trials fail- around 90% - no one will be thinking someone else has that one covered.
The four key reasons for failure of drugs under development are:
1. Lack of clinical efficacy, meaning the drug doesn't work (around 40-50%)
2. Unmanageable toxicity, meaning side effects are too severe (around 30%)
3. Poor pharmacokinetic properties, meaning the patient can't usefully absorb the drug (10- 15%)
4. Lack of commercial interest, accounts for the remaining 10% percent or so.
This is why, to me, IQAI with GaM look so promising, taking the above points and a broad brush for brevity’s sake:
1. GaM has already shown very promising results for similar applications.
2. Has been well tolerated in other studies, specifically targets diseased tissue only.
3. Is known to pass through the blood-brain barrier when administered orally (key for us obviously)
4 Is in demand, as the link demonstrates.
The article highlights demand for solutions, political will, and finance/grants to advance promising projects, which all serve to make us more attractive, not less.
All just my opinion of course.
