Just listening to a R4 interview on how nudge theory is being used or is going to result in the wearing of masks to continue whatever the law says. This social control measure has become the busy-bodies utopia of control. It is jaw dropping that the very existence of these utterly useless barriers is even considered as appropriate. I've warned before of how nudge theory is being played to coerce people into an almost Maoist capitulation to self-appointed social superiors. It is very interesting that someone pops up on the radio to educate everyone, you SHOULD be behaving in this or that way BECAUSE you are being subjected to something being called nudge theory [actual nudge theory is a bit different but any form of secondary or subconscious coercion is described as nudge theory these days]. As it happens, it is like hypnosis in that only about 20% of the population is normally susceptible directly to the suggestions being made and extended social participation is not necessarily by willing consent - as shown when mass population movements suddenly erupt against even the most oppressive regime. For R4 to believe it needs to pull out of its profile archive a talking head to tell people directly that they should be influenced into wearing masks if they see someone else doing it shows that those wanting to hold onto this social control fear the reality will be a rapid abandoning of 'the mask'.

And why does that relate to things like IAG? As always you have to consider the 360. There are many campaigns applying a wide range of tactics to have their agenda put in place and they are often either directly competing agendas or directly competing individuals/organisations trying to get their agenda as the preference to similar agendas. How governments and businesses and of course individuals react to these pressures determines the success or failure of a market place and the big ii investors spend as much, if not more, time studying these variables as they do financial data. So, there is a definite campaign to keep the population submissive to mask wearing. The government is failing to make the case for individual freedom. Therefore, ii investment strategy sees a weak and easily manipulated government, sees other campaign groups like climate change activists and determines the airline sector at risk of being exposed to a more difficult operating environment and therefore returns may be lower and hence values the stock lower and sells.

Teddy, the mask issue is rather like the PCR testing issue. It is an indicator of how the powers that be are reading and interpreting information or being pushed around by lobby groups. As on a number of occasions now this government can seem very malleable and easily to poke down certain alleys that are not conducive to shares like this one. It feeds through to 'sentiment'. Lockdown is ending but the restrictions put in place remain. Creates a bit of confusion in the mind of the average pleb. Do you risk booking a flight against flip flop history and watching a government being manipulated so easily? Market reads the plebs intents and marks the stock down. This shouldn't be happening and is turning into a bit of a crisis of basic confidence. Need a reshuffle now, need Gove out.

Most clueless rudderless leaders latch onto organisations like the WHO to generate policy. I've said all along the WHO needs to lead on vacc passports. It now needs to lead on implementing the reality. Now we have a defence against the virus, the vaccine, the narrative must switch to living with. The WHO needs to take a lead. Whatever you think of Trump, he was right to call them out on being bloody useless. Time they prove the critics wrong. Policy number 1; switching to living with covid and ending lockdowns.

It was polite in Asia before hand if you had a cough or cold to wear a mask so as not to splutter your bodily fluids over other people, which is very important in compact communities such as Japan. It was also a warning to the more vulnerable to steer clear where possible. If everybody wears a mask, just in case, then there is no way of knowing if you are near a splutterer,. And before someone says anybody could be a carrier without knowing, just one look at anybody wearing glasses coming in from the cold shows most of the exhaled breath escapes the mask. Also, non-spluttering carriers are expelling very low levels of virus in warm air that rises above the heads of those around you and so the exposure to active viruses is very low and the probability of absorbing enough to kick of an infection is very low. You may have heard comments about sustained exposure in a closed room, hence open the windows and ventilate? In such a situation, wearing masks has zero effect!

The real world reality should have come to the fore long ago but far to many have to protect their vanity by standing by whatever comments they previously made. And our media is as culpable for pushing all this lockdown and personal restriction crap as well as actively blocking open discussion so some truths can be aired and appropriate changes introduced fast - such as removing PCR testing from travellers outward journey at lease. What possible use is the outward test? Gesture politics by the vain performing for a dictatorship media that just will not tolerate any other opinion other than it's own narrative.

Market doesn't trust the government, narratives continue on the wrong premiss abroad. The vanity of world leaders imprisons them in perpetual lockdown. US becomes more isolationist than anything Trump tried to impose.

And the politicisation of mask wearing continues apace, just like it was at the start of the pandemic. A control mechanism applied to the masses based on a false premise. Open discussion on air about how the masks spread the virus rather than preventing the spread is actively suppressed. But I understand that their are a couple of production companies that have been approaching commissioning editors to make a documentary exploring the issue. These days, documentary's can be released online but getting a broadcaster like channel 4 onside is the aim. The stumbling block is the examining as to why the WHO recommended mask wearing. There is a brick wall around it.

This is critical for all travel sector shares and others. Whilst the merry-go-round of lockdowns continues elsewhere, politicians have backed themselves into a corner unable to break peddle on previous restrictions. Getting some honest open informed debate on air in public will help free politicians from the shackles they have tied themselves up in. There is a big narrative change to be implemented and this is to be done by very naive and vain people all over the world. It could take two or more years for these people to change their message away from trying to control infection numbers and instead living with covid. Questioning whether masks every had any effect, good or bad which is most likely to be the acceptable editorial line, helps open up the language used and qualify lifting of restrictions. The travel industry might get an August and early autumn boost, then for international operators winter sales 'down south' in the equatorial region could be strong. But a big change in the established rhetoric must be made and I salute some very brave film makers looking to burst the bubble.

There were other interviews detailing how many times people touch their face and move the mask. If mask wearing hadn't been taken up as a symbolic anti-trump statement, and it was heavily pushed over there then the WHO may never have selectively cited a narrow selection of opinions and basic publications to make its own little anti-trump retaliation stunt. sorry diamond, go back to the initial days and weeks of the pandemic. Masks were being touted bt some because they had been used in polite asian society before. It was made blunt plain and clear in many interviews that mask would accumulate the virus, people touch the masks, touch surfaces and tgen other people pick up that contamination

I am certainly not in the anti-vacc camp, the opposite. It was inevitable that restrictions on movement would be linked to whether you have the jab or not. The do gooding lefties jumped straight down on vacc passports/restrictions saying it would be unfair on those not jabbed. No jab no access policies are coming into being at random all over as the news sassj posts. Why the majority of populations should continue with major restrictions on freedoms because of a minority of twisted heads that refuse to be vaccinated because they are stupid enough to believe in baseless conspiracy theories? It was always going to have to go that way. What is a little worrying is to hear that EU prime travel targets are still talking the rhetoric of trying to control numbers of infected. It can't be done (especially when people are wearing masks - thought I'd slip that one in). WHO showing no leadership, no courage. It was quick enough to implement a mask wearing directive fro others to follow when it suited them. So what about telling the world to stop chasing infection numbers and concentrate on 'living with covid' now?

marab, masks should be banned! THEY are a main source for super spreading. I would make it illegal. The critical preventative action that should be mandatory is cleaning of hands in isopropyl gel going into any shop/restaurant/transport/indoors or public indoor area. People with 'spluttering' symptoms to banned and made to self-isolate whether they have cold/covid or flu. Only when masks have been removed will the infection spikes stop. By a simple process of elimination, it should be blindingly obvious. Lockdown with masks didn't stop the spread. Everybody has been wearing masks everywhere. It hasn't stopped the spread. Time for some adults to take over this situation.

The market does not trust the government that another major U turn on lockdown policy won't happen. The way they are being buffeted about over where or if masks should be worn rather than simply issuing a clear plain directive, no longer required, shows why investors and traders are very cautious. The only thing that will break this is for a major cabinet reshuffle, and Gove must go. He is the trouble maker.

The campaign to hold on to some controls, especially masks, continues apace into saturation coverage. If broadcasters can not force some lockdown measures to remain mandatory, then they are working very hard to set people against each other when the mandatory rules are changed to advisory. Lockdown has given those who yearn the status of power a platform to leverage propositions and fulfil the desire to issue demands and apparently see them acted on. It is a group think effect. The mask is a prime token of this. At the start, mass media and social nobodies jumped on a high horse of superiority campaigning for mask use. They never expected that thanks to events in the US the forced introduction globally would take place and sadly those that initiated the campaign are now drunk on the apparent power they think they gained. I am aware from friends who work in the BBC that researches back ground checking potential interviewees probe mask wearing attitudes and those that remember the original advice that masks may be spreaders or are aware of the fact are flagged up and so won't ever make it to air [the BBC have intelligence files on thousands of people with more detail than the Stasi used to hold on East Germans!].

And why is this important for investing and for the likes of IAG? If you invest only basing your knowledge sphere on what comes out of places like the BBC, you are going to bled dry of every single penny you have. Those sorts of places are teaming with power control freaks who want to manipulate populations according to whatever philosophy they are into. Keep a much wider perspective and consider many other alternatives, keep a 360 degree view. What is really going on in the world? What is really affecting the sp? It may not be the consensus discussion.

SassJ, one important point though - UK narrative now changing by design to 'living with covid'. We shouldn't assume that the EU for a start are going to follow the same game as attempting to stop covid. It can't be done and I'm sure that the G7 meeting will have accepted the fact that the world must move on from in/out lockdowns. UK may be quick to begin the living-with policy based on the number of fully vaccinated. One very significant error government is still making in the message is to not be comparing with existing known problems such as flu infection and death rates and showing covid is just another disease we have to live with. Again failing to make such a simple message leaves many in the market marking down government competence and hence low confidence and therefore very cautions investment.

It is very simple No1Scarlet. Market does not trust government. That's it. A trusted position and true leadership squandered to the point of total loss of trust. Amazing.

Meanwhile new fridge arriving, and yes it is a mother of all fridges purchased with profit from the last trading month where a read the travel sector without get rich quick wishful thinking rose tinted speculating. I look at the wider picture for my buy/sell clues!

Still no market take-off with the end of lockdown coming. Market still not believing what is coming out of government and that there won't be some major U turn. And looking at how the government is being buffeted around not ending all restrictions, such as continuing to enforce mask wearing, the market is wise to be cautious I think. I don't trust this government to not suddenly change anything.

Johnb - that is about as ignorant as any post I have ever seen. The entire ****ing pandemic is devastating a sector of industry and to pretend that variables that feed into the market reckoning of a share price people invested are not worth considering beggars belief. If all you want is numptie ramping of a share with no consideration of the wider picture then up anchor and sail off to ADVFN. There are many, many angles to be considered when determining whether to invest. A lot of people welcome the thought provoking debate and recognise that variables not immediately obvious can become intrinsic to making decisions. Go to the ADVFN echo chamber, you will find the debate much more simple and basic and just what you want to hear.

You win, why keep flogging it? The masks prevent the spread by mechanisms unknown and do not absorb the virus. Done dusted. As a matter of interest, should we all be vaccinated? I know what your posts say, you are not unique. Most people reading this know what your posts say before reading them after the first one or two. Again, we're not stupid. Vaccinations!

What I really wanted to report when I turned the computer on.

This could be an indicator of just how far the back peddle on lockdown is. I was in B&Q today and joined the familiar 2m distanced queue in a line sectioned off with a chain barrier. As I stood there, the barrier, which had been there for at least a year plus, was being packed up and removed. The queue instruction signs also being carted off. I enquired, and the delimitation of access to the tills was being ended, permanently. So it is back to a scrum fight for the next available checkout. It is a long time since I saw a checkout punch up over queue jumping. If this is replicated at border control, it will be worth flying in to the queues just for the entertainment of queue fights.

I'm confused. You have cited the highest most authoritative work proving your thesis that everything I say is bunkum and a lie. Yet you seem to be back tracking. You have argued beyond question that the masks are essential to prevent the spread from the carrier to people around because the mask STOPS the spread of the virus. The mechanism by which the mask does this amazing feat, as reflected in all the published data on infections rates, is unknown because you have equally argued and demonstrated by references I simply can't be bothered to look at shown that the masks do not absorb the virus and therefore spreaders can not contaminate their hands and then surfaces they touch. Another person therefore can not pick up the concentrate virus pool form the surface, touch their face and eyes and have the concentrated virus introduced to their bodies through eye sockets or skin legions. You've proved it doesn't happen anywhere on the planet ever, ever, ever. Why do you need to feel a second defensive post is required? Nobody is questioning you or doubting anything you say.

What is your opinion on vaccinations by the way. You omitted any reference in your last informative post as far as I could see. A mere oversight on your part [do you really think we are all so bloody stupid!!!]
