Is it the case the authoritarian strains that exist in our democracies and world governments knew this was going to happen at some point and have been ready to move quick to keep the covid fear ball rolling? I knew a lot of them would have trouble letting go of the control over populations they have been gifted by covid and everything is pointing to that direction. The very first reports of the variant were accompanied with the symptom description as extremely mild, nothing new is being discovered as the clock ticks on. It is the end of covid and some can not let it go, just like masks, they can't let go. We are going to need some aggressive politics in a number of places to get out of this it seems. UK government must fall next week.

What is jaw dropping is that it was being widely reported there was nothing of concern about the effect of this variant, in fact it was actually a good thing, yet more testing is introduced and it can only have one impact on travel and that is to make it more complicated and expensive and hence it was a deliberate deterrent. A stealth quarantine and then additional sabotage. It really does stink to high heaven. Nothing about the Omicron reports warrants any of the response. Omicron is being used as a cover for a deliberate sabotaging of travel. It is blindingly obvious as each hour ticks by.

Tuesday, I want to see rebels in the house openly calling for the PM to consider his positions, rip him to shreds during PMQs and have a tory backbencher ready to propose a vote of no confidence by Thursday if Boris has not walked and all the travel restrictions removed. I think there were still countries asking for a lateral flow fit to fly, not a PCR. And the aim was to get that removed from all destinations. This additional test is specifically designed to sabotage travel further. It is a meaningless additional complication and every single piece of information that comes out about omicron shows this kind of measure is not required.

This is deliberate sabotage of the industry, again. They are playing on the narrative that there is something is scary about the variant,but that argument is already busted. Don't do pre departure through the POST, you need to find a local drive through with instant results. 24hr before departure is a bit of a pain and a bit useless too.

It is interesting how various governments reacted to the initial description of the number of mutations on Omicron as 'horrific', yet a few days latter the reaction to the news that symptoms are only mild has a much more sanguine reaction. It is easy to extrapolate from that, that there could be years of knee jerk reactions to come.
Alternatively, I wonder how much of the initial reaction is being regretted already. Clearly not in Hong Kong. But the WHO is at least trying to give a route out. This massive overreaction might result in a procedure being put in place for the future, especially as it is becoming obvious this variant has been around in the rest of the world for a while before SA reporting it.
Perhaps if they stopped using the region of reporting a variant to name it, would help. If they started using something like, for example, greek letters [keep it in the west somehow!] then people will not think in terms of origin location which it is known from the other variants to be of no help. Think I'll contact the WHO and let them know of my idea, what do you think the chances of it being used are, lol??

And the response to big pharma is not going well as they are talking up as much as they can more and more boosters as the profit motive is obvious. One of the reasons I wouldn't touch bitcoin or any of the derivatives. There is no reference point to gauge relative values in the real world, like payroll numbers that have some market push/pull within the data. I have no idea if a £1 bitcoin purchased is actually worth 1p or £1000. At when the true real value is discovered one day, I suspect it will be a Ponzi value, and when that happens it will be immediately non-convertible to hard currency. So many people are going to get burnt with that one...

This is a classic of narrative setting. Describing it as questions ANSWERED you immediately led to believe this is the definitive position and other positions must be speculative or misleading.

This is also what the so called 'fact checking' devices are for. They are used only to underline the narrative bias of the news media. A little out of favour in the UK but still very prevalent in the US.
