Brokers don't play tricks building positions unless they are fund managing. They keep the things very separate otherwise they will be hammered by FCA and fraud squad. It is the mm who play games to try and ensure they always, ALWAYS beat the market. They are supposed to make a profit as mm on aggregate. Some mm are far too aggressive to actually make a liquid market, just look at the stagnation of poly trades.

With TDWaterhouse it was T+3 before your money was ready to buy again. With iweb, you can often trade again straight away, but cash withdrawal is T+3. Settlement is not always instant with faster payment for brokers as the mm might not be on a fast payment system. Sometimes there are settlement delays, the buyer broker has to send the money to the mm, the mm then hs to send it to the seller broker. And some are still using slow antiquated computers.

I think etoro are trying to market some sort of shared or pooled strategy. Haven't looked at it but at the end of the day your little share club you are pooled with will buy and sell from a mm. Anything else is get rich quick fools gold.

You are not pooled with other buyers and sellers. Your trade is singular. It is why you see so many smallish ordinary trades. If it was pooled, it would have to be specifically declared but then you will be part of an investment club rather than having YOUR trade executed. There are some companies that claim they pool for better price leverage, but the stock rage will only be limited to high volume. Look at Poly today, 50 trades so far. You would be sitting waiting for other pis to join the pool for a long time.

I have come to realise why there are such clear specifics in many of these reports. The Ukrainians are getting inside info from Russian tactical command. Some stories have talked about locals with Russian sympathies [before there houses are bombed] helping the Russians on the ground, but of course with the extent of the family connections there are just as likely to be sympathies the other way round.

Wouldn't touch dark pools. What if there is now buyer when I want to sell? The mm system at least guarantees I will a price. All my experience with these alternative setups is ordinary pis are fleeced by sophisticated algorithms, especially when the scheme is leaveragd. Many a pension fund has been legally scammed. HL, that would be illegal again. If L gave a quote to sell poly at say £100 but actually aggregated at £102 so they gave me £100 and they kept they the £2 they have just defrauded me £2. Now, however, if this was a managed fund, that could be legal is it was in the Ts & Cs they could take a commission from a transaction.

The total shares held on behalf of several pis mabe 'pooled' under one broker name, but a pi certainly can not buy from that pool, that would be off book and that would be by special arrangement and many brokers for pis are unlikely to offer that service. You buy shares as api, your broker obtains them rom mm, and when you sell they go to mm. You do not buy and sell in to pools.
As for the 'dark pools' market, that is clearly an off book trading platform that sounds natly set up to take pis money like all the other clever clever scheme, forex, bitcoin, spread bets and and consumer cfds. Guaranteed loss for he average pi.

newdealz, you are wrong. All brokers will say in their Ts & Cs that they will go to their brokers (the market makers) and get the best price. Otherwise the broker is behaving as a market maker themselves which can leave them open to accusations of shorting a pis. To buy from a broker directly would be an off book trade and that would be explicit during the transactions. There are no 'dark pools' for ordinary pis. That sounds more like a spread betting scam on a fake market.

and it goes on. Anybody who thinks there is going to be a return to normal is utterly deluded. Russia is going to be made to suffer for a long time as a deterrent to others. A poly split is the only practical option to divest from the tainted Russian connection. Even that will only have a limited impact on restoring sp. Still can't see better that £4.50 18 months from now.

That's off book trading and from a pi point of view fraud. You expect a market price not a dodgy internal fix.

And it continues. As I say, even if the war ended on Kremlin terms and Ukraine was forced to give up land and the covert Kremlin backers like France and Germany suddenly lifted sanctions, there is a wide range of western business that will not be returning, at least for many years. Retail losses might be laughed off, but the tech, software, engineering, financial and insurance services are not so easily replaced.

A big one to come, Lloyds removes shipping insurance for flagged or owned vessels. That will probably happen soon before owners start scuttling boats to make claims before the ban. Does LLoyds trust Russian boat owners to be honourable???

You talk belgrano as if the west has been successfully snookered everywhere from the battlefield to sanctions to oil. It is a wishful thinking viewpoint as the Donbas war which has been going on since 2014 will continue but with Ukraine much better armed, private companies imposing the sanctions such that even if governments lifted geopolitical sanctions Russia will still be stuffed for years to come and there are shipping capacities on oil meaning Russia is definitely losing a large of exports in volume and value and that will continue as a complete embargo is established.

Russia has made a catastrophic error. There will be now bounce back to pre war modus operandi and anything loosely connected with Russia is tainted now and for a couple of generations at least with a very high risk factor, as is seen priced in to Russian shares.

Some here are truly delusional. The sanctions are going to be around for many years. Russia will be cut out of a lot of trade for the simple reason of trust not juat by governments but by private companies too!

I don't know what FUD is and I cautioned on IAG and where is it's SP? Languishing in the 120s STILL despite never ending mega ramping from many wishful thinkers. Until pre flight testing is lifted to the US IAG will not return to even the pre war level. Airline stocks are still very vulnerable and staffing issues further dent recovery. I was 100% right on IAG. I stayed in RR which has bottomed out and I expect to see in the 120s post war.

How far back was that? Would they make the same assessment now? Interesting to know but the resistance of Ukraine was not expected, Ukraine actually launching counter offensives was not expected and the hellish medieval siege mentality leveling towns and cities was not expected either.

Things have changed, a lot. I will still make a profit at wars end but not expecting any of the crazy predictions some are making as if the war barely exists.

The 'current issue' is a nasty unprovoked bloody war that is setting up generations of deep seated anger for revenge and retribution and outright distrust of all things Russian. Things are not going to flip back to 'normal' after the 'issue' is over. I am confident a lot of the ry negative future for the Russian assets is now priced in.

This is never going back to £15, or £10, or even £5.

anon, the news reports of industry grinding to a halt all over Russia are so numerous they are not worth posting. Only point of note is the largest cities in the West, Moscow St P, are much more protected from the sanction effects as resources are diverted there. But the effects are growing in main population areas.
