It's been clear for a long time time that for most nations including the Chinese Ukraine is not under any obligation to surrender territory and any provision to do so seeking a peace deal before May 9th would be absolutely at the discretion of Ukraine and only Ukraine. A few european nations working with the Kremlin have tried to manipulate towards surrender for their own agendas, but in the weeks since May 9th he real ambition of Putin has been revealed and the european push for Ukraine to surrender now appears to be withdrawn. I say wasting time trying to persuade Ukraine to surrender was a major tactical blunder which will hopefully be quickly corrected now.

Russia was never going to sue for peace with marginal gains, it is revealed. Now either Russia is pushed back out Ukraine completely and losing the war triggers a full coup in the Kremlin, or the generals stop the slaughter which triggers a full coup in the Kremlin. If Russia wishes to expand the war with nato, then only total unconditional surrender of Russia to nato forces will be acceptable and nato will clear out the Kremlin ready for a new democratic structure a decade or so down the line. Only one certainty exists, Russia losses.

A point to note, we now know very few promised units of heavy weapons are actually deployed yet the progress of the Russian army is excruciatingly slow and even suffer pushbacks with huge losses.

Whatever the reason for delaying the deployment of the new weapons, they do appear to be on the way for real now so I expect my original predictions of Russia being pushed back to pre 2014 borders to happen. I just hope the Ukrainians keep their heads and follow Geneva conventions as they take prisoners along the way.

Ukraine to decide on its own deal is not new news, this has been around for a long time. Maybe the new news is the Franco Germanic axis has finally come to accept this and will not prevaricate holding up the arm shipments any further.

Anyway, I am expecting an RNS within days, possibly asking the LSE to suspend shares while a significant restructuring is put in to action. At least an attempt to clarify the company intentions will be made. That is my prediction, related to the real world.

I think the point was made Russia was threatening to attack former soviet states that did not toe the line. Doesn't mean a quasi terrorist attack will not be significantly disruptive or successful. Also the armed forces are a different match and so the equivalent resistance of Ukraine might be less in Kazakhstan. However, the ethnic mix is very different and China will be very unhappy at the prospect of ethnic 'eastern' related people coming under Russian attack.

They may regress to pre-digital or even pre-transistor times. There will be radiation effects, but we have adapted to survive with radiation all around us now. In the good old days it was called 'surge capacity', the extent production lines could be switched from producing consumer goods to war components. There has been rumblings of concern over the decades about the loss of manufacturing in the UK. You will have heard arguments about keeping industries going, like steel production, for strategic reasons. The UK is quite diverse and has a full industrial suite for modern weapon production but we are a bit too tied up with Europe for more complicated machines like aircraft and I remember that being a significant concern. I worry a bit the likes of France and Germany in terms of commitment having been humiliated by Putin so far as they appear to be still deluded They can fix Putin, well until this weekend. But if all out war starts and governments give themselves executive powers to take over factories and industries it will become infectious. Russia will be simply erased. If it goes all out, there will be no halfway.

I've said for many weeks, the Russian generals know what is coming and therefore they would be the ones to end it. It has emerged that the deployment of the heavy weapons has been slow and delayed with occasional reports of their use. But the last few days indicates Ukraine's position of not ceding territory in some dirty deal is being accepted by western powers and in fact Putin has clearly stated his objectives extend far beyond Donbas and land corridors. And with the rhetoric being pumped up today telling UK forces to expect to be engaged on the next battlefield in Europe, it looks like nato is getting ready for what is inevitably going to be a direct conflict with Russia - unless those generals who do know what is coming do the honourable thing and call it off. Putin sounds like he is going down in defeat guns blazing like some latter day Hitler, oh the irony of it given his plan of denazification. It was him himself all along.
