I think the war will end sooner, but ot by a land grab, by the Russian generals calling it day as they have already lost, have been beaten back and the gain Putin could claim was on territory already controlled separatists for large part. The land corridor is weak and very vulnerable as shown with the offensive in the south by Ukrainians. The generals have had a brief window due to a slower than expected deployment of heavy western new weapons, hence the all or nothing push in Donbas. But once equipped the generals know what is going to happen and that Ukraine will just reign down precise munitions and the extremely high attrition rate of Russian forces will continue.
