Yes, I am expecting Xi to instruct Putin to withdraw from Ukraine soon. The whole campaign has gone ti.ts up and globally there are all manner of perturbations that are impacting China negatively and there is certainly no victory conclusion in sight for Russia, quite the opposite. China will also be receiving much of the intelligence from the front line from the Russian generals, it is all over the Kremlin and in reginal and local government all over Russia. The game is most definitely up. It is all about the end game now, whether it will be a quick military led cessation nd rapid withdrawal or a messy turkey shoot as Putin clings on trying to magic up some brazen attempt to spin the defeat and keep hold of some territory.

Irrespective of the method and rate of withdrawal, POLY must split and exit Russia. It will take a very long time, many years, before anything connected to Russia is trusted again and any new regime will need years to demonstrate Russia is now longer a problem. A split will be best for POLY RUS too as clear demarcation lines will allow specific business policies to be implemented suitable for what will be a turbulent few years for Russia.

I am still on for war's end towards but bringing the possible end date forward a little to BEGIN towards the end of September, then a few weeks of turmoil as Putin tries to cling onto territory despite Xi's direct instructions, and by mid-October the collapse of Putin's regime with a general and cease fire and start of a full withdrawal from Ukraine. Not sure why some are trumpeting the purchase of market oil rather than direct as some sort of victory for Putin. It simply demonstrates that for him to impose a sanction with any impact, he will have to stop all oil exports to all countries. All that will happen then is others increase supply to cash in! He's played his gas cards, too late, and simply triggered the net zero backlash a year or so earlier than was going to happen anyway. In fact so far all he has done is spike the gas price on top of prior big increases (which will now drop shapely as the big buyers fill their storage) and demolish the market he had. There will be no flocking back to Russia as a very unreliable supplier. Even in the cold war the tap wasn't turned off. He's gone all in and he has lost. As the significant losses and reality of the Ukraine failure permeate the corridors of the Kremlin, added to the mounting economic shock, loss of a main export market, lack of support from China (or anybody really) and botched poker play of the energy card, well it isn't looking good.

This is why the long term relationship with Russia is terrible and whatever happens on the battlefield of Ukraine POLY needs to get OUT of Russia completely or it WILL be dragged under with the country. Even if Putin is 'disposed' of today the damage is so bad the country is toxic, the assets there are toxic and the best option is out!

It is a last act of desperation by Putin and now Europe and especially Germany have faced their huge energy policy failure, huge moves ave been made already to cutout Russia all together permanently and net zero has been hugely impacted with real world acknowledgment now of the utter folly of that policy. Putin as actually done the west, and indeed the world, a huge favour exposing the crazy policy's shortcomings.

There is no energy trump card for Putin. There will be no change in the west's policy to Ukraine. More nato weapons, and now MiGs, will be sent to Ukraine instead. Putin's last play is not a card in the game, it is the gun smuggled into the game, the nukes. Within a couple of weeks the nuclear threat will b very significantly raised as he desperately tries to hold on the initiative. But nato, China, India and ****stan (and Israel to some extent) have already had time to acclimatise to the likely use of a tactical weapon being used. I will guarantee NO country, not even N. Korea, will support the actual use and instead Russia will undergo invasion from all sides and be under full occupation for ageneration.

This is now the end game, the last cards played, Russia has lost the hand and the game. The only detail now is ho the capitulation will pan out. Least loss full withdrawal or occupation in response to the use of nukes.
