RE: Negotiations Ukraine and Russia18 Aug 2022 15:23
"BREAKING: Russia has declared its readiness for direct negotiations between Zelenskyi and Putin "
There is nothing of the sort in this story. It is a timely recap on the grain export mechanism to keep it working and a routine chat to see what options there are. Zelenski will say Russia troops off Ukraine land, Putin will say Ukraine must surrender, and nothing will happen.
There are no 'negotiations'. Putin had the option some time ago now to sue for negotiated peace where he may have even kept some sort of land corridor in the south.
But the nato weapons are no in Ukraine, Ukraine has no need to cede anything at all now. The west is digging in and expanding support, energy sourcing has flipped from Russia at an eye brow raising rate and major U turns on nuclear, coal and net zero are underway across the continent so nobody will be held to ransom during winter.
If Putin has sent Erdogan with a deal, it will be the fools errand from a man staring at the full scale of his defeat. He can beg and plead for something as he desperately tries to save face, but it isn't going to happen. NOBODY will bow to Putin.
And as said before, if the war ended tomorrow and all troops retreated back to Russia, it would still be very much in the interests of POLY to split. Some people still seem to view this as some sort of low level low importance minor irritation not worthy of any coverage and everything will magically return to 'normal' quickly after road is swept and new flowers are planted on the Kyiv roundabouts.
GET REAL and accept the best business case is to dump the toxic, very toxic, toxic for decades to come, assets.
