A few posts on the ENET hashtag on twitter, a few well-followed handles pointing out the chart etc. Looks to be gathering a bit of momentum. Personally I've never quite understood phrases like 'once it breaks 40p it's going to fly' - surely it won't just jump to 50p with no resistance...? Anyway, nice to see some interest.

Well, whether they wanted to or not that news yesterday seems to have lit the touchpaper. I'm not into charts really but apparently the Enet chart is very good .. don't ask me why.

It's only an RNS-R, it's an important distinction and companies have to be very careful with what they say. There's nothing material enough to be a full RNS but they clearly felt it was sufficient to warrant informing the market via an official channel. No idea how long a trial like this may last but if they are selected by some of the clients then it would be huge.

Sergi the Silicom NIC has similar functionality to the Xliinx card but based on Intel hardware. It's nowhere near as advanced as the Ethernity NIC (I think even David mentioned that Enet had been chosen ahead of Intel kit in an interview).

Kitlow from what I understand the server vendors are being pressed by operators to come up with a DU device with certain specifications. Routing is not part of that because the operators have cell site routers that work already so they're not looking to add cost to their products without the demand for the advanced features.. so basically until they demand it the vendors won't provide it

So Ethernity's DU will almost certainly be trialled against competing products. The industry is seeing the open RAN opportunity and Ethernity are in amongst the top players for the market share. I'm not being negative but to say this is their market to dominate freely would ignore the fact that there will be competition for the wallet

This is a new piece of kit which even in the announcement states is not in its final form yet, so there's nothing that would convince me that other providers would not be developing their own. Xilinx is one that I have seen that has a DU card for example. This is a trial and it's great to be in the mix with these tier 1 providers, but it's called a trial for a reason .. it's not a slam dunk but with the products Ethernity have they are in with a good chance.

Actually TL the router on the NIC isn't the patent protected part, it's the patents that allow Ethernity to fit more logic onto the FPGA than the competition. Technically anyone can put a router on a NIC it just wouldn't be as efficient. This is a trial of the DU, there will be competition for this as there's no way other providers would not have a product available for such a large potential market.

Yes great to have an update and more meat on the bones. It actually doesn't mention anything about exclusivity TL but just to be at this stage with 3 tier 1's is a fantastic achievement. As we know they've been selected over rivals before so no reason to believe they won't be selected here.. their products have excellent performance and also reduce capex so surely ticks every box for the head of procurement!
