FYI, I read the other day that the week after a clock change is a poor time for investing. Not quite sure what it meant.

Poorman, that is a singularly pessimistic view, IMHO.

They have a strategy in place to achieve investment grade by 2026 YE, which means certain criteria have to be fulfilled, including, I think, reintroduction of dividends. They have just placed an order for another new ship. This should be the most resilient cruise co because of its worldwide spread - but that somehow seems to go against it and also produces incredible intra-day volatility you won’t see in any other share.

I am in for the long haul, BTW.

Bot, sometimes bravery can look a bit silly but not here. You clearly have lots of insights and knowledge and I, for one, am very glad to see you here.

Of course, when you leave the share price in the hands of someone line me, that might get a bit nearer to being “F****** stupid” as you so delicately put it.

Carnival announced that almost as part of their Q1 results. My personal view is that in terms of revenue etc. it is barely more than a drop in the bucket. You only have to look at the amount of cash they hold, >$5bn, or their total revenue or their total expenditure to see it is a very small amount.

Doesn’t help the inconvenience to passengers or lessen the impact of this absolute tragedy.

Casapinos, nice to see a new face on here. I am worried that your debt numbers aren’t right for Carnival. Long term debt stands at $28bn.

Their stated intention is to achieve “investment grade status” in 2026. So this means certain criteria will have to be met. Not sure exactly what they are but it is a meaningful status, apparently.

Multi-nationals are all the same, Bot. I used to work for one with HQ in Toronto. We had three operating areas. UK, USA and Canada. Each of the three country business were perpetually composing that the “central” overhead was way too much for what it provided, which in the case of theUK, was the square root of not a lot.

Anyway, when you look at the fancy salaries, perks and share options, you do begin to wonder. I am on their mailing list and get regular shots telling how brilliant they have been in promoting this or that individual and recruiting another etc.

However, at least in this current announcement they talk about improving shareholder value.

It got close to testing £13 at around 12:45 our time, peaking at £12.83. I think it will go above £13 when everyone realises how strong the company is.
