Hi Jimbo, have seen the same thing at my local mrw stores. Very busy even on a wet Sunday morning. Maybe Joe public is realising quality is just not there at the discounters, nor choice. What is needed now are good xmas figures and the recovery will gain pace. GL to you.

This is taken from a BBC report. I also read in another report that Aldi and Lidl are now " Marching south" However I can not find second report so disbelieve me if you wish. I could not care less. Some people on this BB have large paper losses and yet they post educated, reasoned, thought-out posts. They are gentlemen who I am happy and honoured to be able to talk to. Gentlemen opers, something you sadly will never aspire to. Being all bitter and twisted about your Tesco and Drax losses will not help you. By being rude, insulting, repeating the same old tosh, will win you no friends. You have only to view the tsco board to see what people think. Lummox summed you up quite well Tuesday. I will waste no more time on you, you are just not worth it. To other good posters here, please forgive my rant at the Tesco drift wood. Patience is the game, divis are to be enjoyed along with a beer or three at xmas. ATB all.

Fruitster, Jack D,Jimbo, Asbury and other naturally sensible posters. Not overly worried by MRW`s slide over the last weeks as I still see this as a strong company. Patience is what is needed IMO for what its worth. The ownership of own property is the real area that gives me confidence. Any take over bid would have to be in the region of 230p to make me happy to accept it. Paying a dividend is also a major plus, as it offsets any loss on share price. Morrison`s debt is also being reduced and pension fund well in the black. Aldi and Lidl`s main onslaught has been in MRW`s heartland and now I feel it has weathered the storm and is holding its own. Other grocers have yet to feel the full force of the discounters so we will see how they fair.(South) As for Potts I don`t think he has done to bad. He inherited Morrison's at a time when things were starting to get tough so I don`t hold him to blame. However any further reduction in divi would not be welcome and I would hope it would be matched with a corresponding drop in managers / directors pay / bonus. The danger for directors is the drop in divi would drop SP thus making takeover more likely and them out of a job. On a brighter note both my local Morrison`s are very busy and asking the checkout girls how things are the comments are encouraging. Here's to a successful Xmas, GL all.

Good reasoned post. The one thing that won`t change if MRW drop out is the increasing volumes shopping at Morrison's. All will help profits and shore up / boost dividend. Don`t think management would like a take over so their only way to maintain SP is a healthy divi. Patience is the word. GL all.

Hi hotts, I have also read that the Aldi / Lidl onslaught has been in the "Morrisons heartland" which says that it is now holding its own. The thing is though they are now targeting the other big three`s areas ie south. Tough times ahead for all. MRW looks likely to fall out of ftse 100. Patience is what is needed now as what may happen is- lower SP which = more divi for your buck if buying in now. Take over bid which given MRW`s ownership of property would have to be large. Things stay as is. Either way I think strong nerves and patience are needed. GL sir and ATB to all.

Morrisons was the only one of the “big four” supermarkets to grow over the last 12 weeks, according to latest figures by Kantar World panel. The supermarket, which this week faces demotion from the FSTE 100, managed a sluggish 0.1 per cent increase in sales – less than the grocery sector, which rose by 0.2 per cent – but still outperforming its top rivals Tesco, Sainsbury and Asda. Those three declined by 1.3 per cent, 2.4 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively for the 12 weeks to May 24. Fraser McKevitt, head of retail and consumer insight at Kantar Worldpanel, said: “Morrisons has returned to growth for the first time since December 2013 with a marginal sales increase - a welcome boost for new chief executive David Potts.

Hello Jack, Sounds like you are doing well and good to hear. I am ready for a dabble with barc`s as it has been good to me before. Missed the 215p mark but such is this game. Clearing their misdeeds of the past should see these rally quite nice but just as you think troubles are over government and US regulators seem to find something else. Concentrating on and researching barc`s atm as I feel they are cheap. 6.5p divi at just over 220 p. Only in August sp was near 290p so is due a bit of a rise. Can`t see any more bad news on the horizon for them but you just don`t know with barc`s. Government also seem to see banks as their own cash cow which does not help. Will sleep on it and see what morning brings.... more rain probably. ATB.

The supermarket giant's new approach appears to be similar to that of Morrisons, which in a bid to reverse its sales slide sold off its unprofitable convenience store arm and plans to close a number of unprofitable supermarkets. Tesco has also been downsizing recently, putting the brakes on new store development and closing down a number of underperforming supermarkets, as well as selling off its non-core assets.

PC@29, without doubt there are going to be stores under preforming. 11% though does sound grim and makes me wonder what has changed in the area. More competition, new Aldi / lidl, along with some poor managers. If MRW are not retaining the services of good people then this needs addressing. I believe the upper managers of MRW are "Listening to customers" so perhaps this store needs bringing to their attention. GL.

Morning Fruitster, was wondering how things are with MRW in your neck of the woods. Keighley MRW I struggled to park last night and the better half was late out due to ALL checkouts being utilized. This store has lots of local competition from Aldi x 2, Asda, Sainsbury's and others but is doing fine, as is the Skipton store. Post when you have time ATB.

Welcome onboard Hots, Resent history for mrw shows a trading range of between 150p to 214p so your move looks well timed. Also there is a divi to be enjoyed so looks very shrewd indeed. GL Matey.
