On Alistair's, I found it noteworthy that it states Avacta's first drug will be in the clinic in 2020 - previously there has been some ambiguity about 2020/2021...

Still holding onto all my shares - but trying to replace a stolen laptop so having a little go trading over the rises in my holdings!

(Genuine question - I've been in at £1.50 for months!)

I noticed there appeared to be an ascending wedge on the chart and so opened a spread bet on the breakout at 10.30 around the 138p mark.

Now we're dropping a bit, I wonder if traders taking profits will send it back down to retest the level - as is the norm, apparently. Equally, FOMO Friday, news due and positive sentiment might hold us up (and I am holding for news).

As my technical analysis is akin to stirring tea leaves, I wondered if anyone else had any thoughts - mainly as I'm trying to teach myself some new tricks!

I cannot dispute your second point though - if the government is going to waste money, let them waste it with us...

PL75 - I think thats why the sewage tech is so powerful; you can accurately predict the prevalence of community infection through the viral load of the sewage, which would reveal the hot spots. There was an interesting study done on this in Holland at the start of the pandemic.

Agent B - That sounds right; using R-T Sewage monitoring around the country - which presumably is comparatively cheap - and then using the data alongside other metrics to direct mass-screening with LFT's etc.

Would be much more practical logistically, not to mention cheaper, than trying to blindly test the entire country simultaneously...

Spike - no I didn't notice that but it would make sense; the paper feels very much like proof of concept work so as you say, MS looks like it's certainly on the agenda.

I do wonder if this is why we have heard nothing about our BAMS test - I'm already of the opinion that there's NDA's in place around the LFT/anything entering CONDOR, so I think it's plausible we have had no update (when one is certainly overdue now) as procurement negotiations are underway... food for thought in any case!

I'm not a scientist (junior architect) but I have a research background, so I had a skim read of the top article, I think it's very relevant to us. In short key highlights are:

- One of the authors is followed by Avacta on Twitter

- The BAMS Assay Avacta is developing with Adeptrix is compatible for use on most MALDI-ToF Mass Spectrometers

- The paper outlines a comprehensive, clinically validated, sample-collection-to-lab workflow for using MALDI-ToF Mass Spectrometers to screen for COVID, based on saliva samples taken at home, to demonstrate the suitability of MALDI-ToF for population-level screening

- The paper outlines problems with PCR testing and outlines how MALDI-ToF screening avoids current bottlenecks with supplies of regents and swabs, alongside inaccuracies introduced through poor sample collection

- The paper outlines how MALDI-ToF is highly suited to population-level screening for COVID, with a much lower cost per test and much faster processing time than PCR - potentially an 80%+ cost discount

- Sensitivity of nearly 100% can be achieved with MALDI-ToF testing

If you want to read the key takeaways read the 'discussion' and 'conclusion' section at the end. If I were a company making a BAMS test for use on MALDI-ToF Mass Spectrometer, I would be very happy this paper has been published!
