The govt really don't want the travel industry to survive it seems. Omicron is already here, don't they get it? The WHO even say travel restrictions don't work. Will people have to take a PCR test two days before an office party and isolate after for two days before taking another ,all at their own expense? I think we know the answer. It's absolutely ridiculous. If this Omicron is less dangerous in terms of hospitalisation and deaths ,but more transmissible and can replace Delta , I argue that it should be actively introduced as a way out of this pandemic.

Calldat, , you are very lucky if you are seeing an improvement in service. Very lucky indeed. Mhudson i didn't say from one end of the country to another for less than a quid wasn't good value.....if it actually got delivered when it was meant to. Some mail is time sensitive like I said, with consequences if missed. Royal mail are not bothered about this, because it's not tracked. Why have any timeframe on letters at all? Why are they not more transparent and say, look, due to not wanting to spend money staffing the company correctly, if you post a letter we are not going to give you a timeframe when it will arrive. I'd have no problems if they said that. Instead they try to pretend it's isolated 'covid' related cases. Which is simply not true.

Hopefully the reporters finished at 5.30-6pm like we did up here, and took plenty of photos and notes on the many yorks of pkts left along with the many walks that didn't go out......but like you said ,they will have probably had a clear office and have been finished by three. It'll be busy tomorrow in that office when they 'find' what should have gone today though. Lol.

All the people here who don't give a stuff that royal mail are getting away with charging a normal price for a very sub normal service! Maybe I as a postie of 22 yrs I have got too used to caring about my job. The big bosses don't give a stuff about service and quality which (in the end) will come back to bite them. We are not a monopoly any more, people have a choice and will act accordingly. The pack of cards will fall eventually if things keep going the way they are. Sod the special dividend, just employ more bodies and hire more vans in December to fulfill our side of the contract we enter into with the customer when they pay for a service.

Onelongrunner, forgve me but how is it a good thing if you have paid with a promise (do we still actually have a quality measure for 1st and 2nd class?) for a company (us) to handle and deliver your item in the time frame specified? How is it a good thing that hospital appointments are missed because the patient didn't get the letter, or any other time sensitive item? In royal mail, I'm afraid unless it's 24/48 tracked, delivered scanned or special delivery, we turn a blind eye to the rest and deliver whenever we may get around to it. People think they send things signed for 1st class and think it'll get there next 2 days. In reality, it probably won't. Where are the fines Mr regulator? Sadly we now provide a shockingly bad service.

When they said 'its heavy' did you ask are you clearing the office daily? Pkts are piling up at ours mail going undelivered for days, managers in tears, 10% of workforce off sick . WE DON'T NEED ANY MORE WORK . We can't deliver what we are getting! Image an airline where the pilots are all knackered, every plane is full to the brim , people that have booked are held at the airport for days until they find a plane with pilot to take them, and still the management are drumming up even more business and they think it's a good thing! Christmas will not get delivered this yr, order very early and cross your fingers or better still actually get off your behind and go to a shop yourself, would be my best advice. Take care.

Agreed Anger, we need to concentrate on delivering what we have now even, without even pursuing more parcels, let alone another business altogether!

We (the posties) are doing our best. The management of this company most certainly are not. Covid is not new. It's been around for 20 months now. The powers that be should have come up with something to allow the customers to get the service they pay for. Instead they have used covid to save money and try and persuade the govt that getting rid of the USO would be a good idea (again to save money). Us posties are by and large doing everything we can but are physically and mentally drained while the management paint a rosy picture that just isn't true.

Sounds just like a couple at our office, even down to the shade of pink lol. Those combos are a terrible van if you're 6ft. I refuse to take one if the try. Getting in and out doesn't do my knee any favours. Funny how every photo to do with royal mail shows the nice new shiny red ones.

Doesn't mention all the rubbish ten yr old fiat vans that seem to need manually regening every other day , really eco friendly. As always, get a few electric vans in London and the company is deemed green. Really does make me laugh!

As long as we have a workforce to deliver it all. Which we don't even have now. Another big wave of infections and things will be pilled high and out the doors of delivery offices and mail centres. If you see an average delivery office at this time of yr they ain't exactly covid friendly . If this new mutation is as infectious as they say , it's gonna sweep through an office in no time.

Theres a thing. How's India doing now? Don't hear much about it anymore there. Everything will be down tomorrow, travel stocks especially, probably 5-8% because the media have jumped on this new (nu) variant like it's the black death coming. Hopefully it's not. Spreads very fast but only around 100 cases? Really? How so. Fingers crossed the vaccine still works otherwise my early retirement plans are screwed.

As I've said. Everyone ask their own postie if they are happy with the service we provide and their general opinion of those ' in charge ' . You'll get a more true picture of the company than listening to the Boris worthy bluster that Thompson and Pullinger put out there.

Revisions. Yes that's what should happen....in reality somebody who's never seen the area or done the job, creates an almighty clusterfxxk by not even considering the views of the people who do the walk every day. The computer says this is best.... blah blah. They can't seem to get in their heads however you spread it, there's X amout of stuff to deliver in X hrs. Revisions never equalise duties. They just cause much stress, agro and overtime (if you want it).

When you work at the sharp end for royal mail and you listen to Thompson and Pullinger you can't help but wonder if Thompson is taking about the company you work for and Pullinger is representing the workforce of the same company. It really is a joke. I implore people who don't work for royal mail, just ask one who does, your own postie, for the true story of this 'wonderful' business.

The CWU are in bed with the RMG management, to the detriment of the paying public and their paying members the posties. If you're happy with that, good for you.

Ironknut. Exactly. I always tell people on my walk, if you want a parcel make sure it's sent tracked, if you want a letter make it SD. Otherwise it could come anytime. Shocking the amount of stuff left undelivered or brought back .

One thing. Management have most certainly NOT knocked it out the park. Believe me. Posties maybe have, in spite ,not because of management. Honestly most are clueless.
