My letter from HSBC says that they will default to take no action if they don't hear from me by the 27th. They won't. Let's hope Redmile can't get the 90%. Probably still a done deal though.

I think the Chinese have got it cracked along with South Korea now ddubya. Unfortunately the future here lies in the US which very much hasn't and is unlikely to take the steps required to do so.

Interesting point on the 90% guys. Where have you got that from please? I've been invested in several companies during takeovers - ARM, ISAT and poor old SXX to name a few. None of them needed that kind of support. In my experience if the board recommends an offer it's a done deal regardless of how many shares the suitor owns.

It gives me hope though. I do believe this is a derisory one. Hopeful they wouldn't get 90%.

Struggling to see what the controversy is here Nananano. Looks like a straight buyout to me. There are no laws saying businesses can't be sold to China I don't think. I also can't see what would be strategic about GPU IP. Cadmuim free quantum dot ip likewise couldn't be described as strategic either. Seems to me the Chinese company has done the right thing this time and actually paid for it.

I do like the idea of a G20 of health. That sounds constructive. Would need actual power obviously.

Conspiracy theories wherever they are are immensely dumb but using the fact they tried to start one to attack China won't go anywhere because the current epicenter of conspiracy theories is western populists egged on by Russian pranksters. Talk about people in glass houses.

I can't see UK politicians taking action specifically because the UK has no leverage at all with China. We need them more than they need us. Maybe they will try to ban Hauwei again which would be a massive own goal in terms of cost and delay to 5G and completely unessesarry due to one thing - encryption.

There's no doubt certain elements want to bash Beijing but no scientific organisations agree. I hope the experts would win this one. Pandemics don't know borders. Even if Australia or the UK go into a cold war with China it only takes one person to spread germs. Are these people saying we will never allow any travel with China or allow in anyone who has recently been there? I just can't see it. I would hope sensible actions are taken in China address specific problems. They definitely need to be more transparent (Trump not defunding the CDC offices in China might have helped as well). More difficult, they need to try to restructure how food is delivered to stop the trade in wild animals for food. It is worth noting that since the early problems China's response has been very good. There's a lot we can learn from it. Although If I was Chinese I would be very fearful of the extra survieliance they've put in place. I'd be very fearful of the surveillance they already had in place!

That all seems ridiculous to me and more about politicians trying to deflect from failings in their local responses. Can't see it going anywhere. More interested in what lessons China learns. It seems that there was at least a regional attempt inside China to cover up the early days of the epidemic. I expect Xi will hang officials in Wuhan out to dry and put policies in place to promote transparency on emerging diseases.

They're not going to be good but the bank has said that so far the business has been resilient.
