I find £170m underwhelming since they have to hit £180m to match the first half. At least low single digit profit has increased to mid-single digit. If the second half of the fourth quarter goes as the first did maybe they will get to £175m and high single digit profit. The outlook for the next few years sounds very positive which is great.

Going from memory but I'm pretty sure it's been stated Nanoco wouldn't get less than 50%.

It's also worth pointing out that Samsung routinely lose or settle these cases. It appears to be their business model to take whatever IP they need from companies big or small and hope they get away with it. If they are challenged they drag it out as long as possible and settle for less than the profits they have made. IMO, NANO has a good chance of getting something out of this.

While the main thing here is the Samsung case and there can be no guarenteed win the STMicro contract is not small beer. Assuning it goes well we will see significant revenues coming in from H2 next year. The caveat is that it could go the same way as Apple. My guess is the chances are lower as we've been round the loop once with Apple already and STMicro came back a second time (makes me think they are more sure they can get some product to market) and they supply the whole market not just a single customer which provides for more opportunity.

Well, they were prepared to foolishly throw tax payer's money at OneWeb. Maybe we should check out NANO director's family trees and school reports for connections to ministers. At least this is a company with interesting technology.

I expect the current sentiment to reverse once difficulties distributing the vaccines start to sink in. There are real problems getting stimulus through in the US though so maybe there won't be much of a pick up in gold. Not sure at this point. Think you'll be disappointed on the lockdown BTB. Biden's promised no such thing. In fact he's acknowledged the presedent doesn't have the power to impose it. His COVID team are recommending against a nationwide lockdown and focussing on other public health measures.

Market seems happy with it. I'd like to see how it will translate to sales. Does this make VRS's masks more effective than N95s with an electric current running through them? Even if it's parity I would think it's better to have a passive solution.

I've been reading over on advfn that the latest RNS is indeed great news. They expect signifcant 40 - 50% growth in wireless for little outlay as IQE captures the filter market.

I'm not totally convinced about uranium refinement as no one's solved the waste problem. I suspect nuclear is a bit of a dead end. Quantum computing is very exciting but probably more hype than truth at the moment. Long term it's bound to be huge.

It has been a feature of this pandemic in the US especially. Moderna shamelessly did it to get their fund raise out of the way giving execs huge share bonuses. Republican memebers of congress were censured for insider trading off teh back the pessimistic briefings they were getting while the president was pulling the wool over the eyes of the American people. Then there was the fiasco with Kodak. In this case it is odd that they released the info in advance of the safety data. Doesn't mean it's any less true of course.

One very strong counter argument to the White House being in the know CD is that Trump would have flooded the media and devoted his rallies to casting himself as the "saviour." There's no way he would have held back that information.

I don't think it's early. A lot of the major vaccine programmes were expecting data as early as October if everything went well. Not everything did of course. With so many programmes needing so many volunteers enrollment wasn't always easy and two of them were suspended on safety concerns. It does feel like a surprise Pfizer has announceable data now but it's not really outside the expected timescales.

The 90% success rate is high against my expectations at least. Doctors and scientists have been arguing over whether a vaccine would be worth using if it was 40, 50, 60% effective. 90% seems terrific. It'll take ages to manufacture and distribute the required doses. I'm sure more stimulus will be needed. One other thing to bear in mind here though is that a lot of the vaccines in development are aiming for the same end point - protien and t-cell immune response. Several have said that they get that so it's highly likley they'll also report high efficacy and we might rapidly have hundreds of millions of doses on hand. Things could move pretty fast from here.

I don't think the trade wars are over. Democrats are traditionally the more anti-China party when it comes to supporting US jobs. However, it should become logical and rational which will give companies a more predictable framework to operate in and hopefully stop the arbitrary trashing of supply chains. I saw someone on Bloomberg over the weekend say the biggest short term beneficiaries of that would be semiconductor companies but we'll just have to wait and see. Fingers crossed.

That does sound like a conspiracy theory but there does need to be a confrontation with corporate power and removal of money from politics. We can't go on inflating asset prices and bailing out the rich. I don't think that's what Biden's about but agree there is probably not much he can do about it.

That's where it's worth interjecting a cautionary note Lenin. First, Biden as it stands won't get the massive stimulus he might have and second, if he spends whatever he gets well it will result in a stronger dollar which could supress the gold price. I can't say what's going to happen and certainly think it's still a good idea to have some gold in a portfolio.
