Depressing indeed. All the blame has to lie with previous REDX management. Assuming that the loan wouldn't be called in and therefore making no attempt to get the money together to pay it was not a good approach. I remember at the time thinkingn the $40M felt like a godsend.

Also extremely encouraging however. It shows the efficacy of BTK inhibitors in general, REDX's science specifically and if I remember rightly that candidate wasn't seen as exciting as RXC004 by the company. Hopefully this result will cause other companies to take a look at REDX for collaboration and investment.

Any progress in fusion research will suddenly drive demand for helium to beyond that which is available on earth so maybe worth a look. ITER on it's own is going to struggle to get enough and that's just one experiment.

Pretty much straight after hitting return on that last post I went over to the ADVFN VRS board and saw that forestfred had posted some information on a new piece of research on the use of graphene quantum dots in bio imaging. They are non-toxic and the research proves they biodegrade in human cells making them safe for use.

The question is can they be produced in large enough volumes to make them vaible for use in a mass market product? A quick search finds papers that list one of the limitations of carbon based quantum dots is mass production as they require noble metal catalysts. Konstantin Novoselov was working with Nanoco around the time they developed the new novel nano particle production line for Apple before he deacamped to Singapore (thank you Brexiteers). This is way out in the realms of speculation but I wonder if the particles we're making for sensors are carbon based QDs (the high surface area property of graphene makes them very good at harvesting light) and whether the Innovate loan will be used to investigate whether NANO's high volume production process can be used to make carbon based QDs for bio imaging in viruses. Certainly all the research bodies are UK university centred but also with input from Strasbourg and Nanyang universities.

Agree NGR1616. I would say the risks are that other parties are persuing similar research or that some other technology comes along that renders it unnecessary.

NANO has a big advantage regarding the first as the QDs will need to be non-toxic. The fact their QDs are CF and that they have been researching using them in people for several years already gives them a big lead.

Reckon the chances of the second are tiny given the 18 month timescale. It's not long to wait for some results given the science involved.

Significant placing at what seems to be a decent price to me given how this one moves on any success. It will be way over 73p if any of the trials are successfull next year or we get any payments from Jazz or Astra. Good to see the company cashed up to end of 2022.

I've not seen a phase 1 combination trial mentioned for RXC004 before. Is that new?

We have different views of Innovate UK Steadydanny. IMO, they take a scatter gun approach with small loans and grants (compared to other countries) hoping some of what they throw at the wall sticks. I've had shares in loads of companies that have got Innovate loans with subsequent products never appearing. It has a role to play in keeping companies going during the very early stages of development but invtestors need to carefully judge the merits of any project on their own taking into account the ability of the company to deliver.

Shorters gonna short. As long as the company delivers the sp will rise and other reports on that board are that the VRS presentation itself was very good.

I can confirm it BBD but without a reference. I can't recall when he said it but think it was in writing somewhere. Maybe in a Q&A. Not sure it will play a part in the case. My recollection is that he said they didn't want to patent everything but use a combination of trade secrets and patents to keep the IP secure because there are lots of examples of IP being stolen just by reading the patent. NANO's approach was to leave some key parts of their production process out so that no one could reproduce it if they only had the patents to go from.

Of course, with several production lines set up just down the road from Samsung in the Dow factory I doubt it would have been very difficult to tempt a Dow employee or even plant someone on the inside to get hold of the extra information they needed.

I honestly don't think this news is going to make a difference short term guys as every man and his dog is doing something COVID. Most will result in diddly squat. I'm hopeful this one will come good as the reason for trying QDs must be to increase the sensitivity of any test. That will be greately beneficial if achieved and cost effective.

I'm pretty sure the opportunity here is in general viral detaction not COVID19. Sounds like a massive potential market. There was a paper a couple of years back from a Chinese university on detacting viruses using QDs. Linked to it on this board as thought it was very interesting but didn't think NANO would pursue anything similar as they were focussed on cancer.

Life Sciences sparks back to life. I didn't think we'd see anything out of it for many years given the extensive research and testing needed to get anything to market in the sector but it looks like COVID has given us a push. Thankfully it looks like this development will be too late to be useful for COVID19 but improved viral testing will be essential for tackling future pandemics. We haven't exactly covered ourselves in glory in that regard during this one. Matt Han**** said that he wanted to use the COVID testing regime to test for flu once the current pandemic had died down. No doubt trying to cling to any positives to distract from his many failings but a large scale annual testing programme for flu using Vivdot tests could be quite a money spinner. I wouldn't complain.

Kenya drilling really looks like it will be exciting viable.
