From where I'm sitting the whole market has risen on the back of the election. I'm guessing that's because it sees a period of stability coming but without a sweep of all houses it will be shielded from some of the more progressive policies. I'd prefer there to be news round the corner to be honest as that could have a much bigger impact.

I wouldn't be so sure McConnell is going to get his way on stimulus. Not because he couldn't block anything he wants to but because now the election is over the politics might start taking a back seat to the fact it's a massive national emergency. They may get a decent package through.

Back to gold price. There was an article in Investors Chronicle a few months back making the case the it was more highly influenced by sterling strength than dollar strength. Most of it went way over my head but maybe the next catalyst will be Brexit.

The rhetoric was a bit strong maybe but that's been the effect while he's been in power. Interestingly he did pass an executive order before the election reclassifying all governmental roles (even low level ones) making non-political appointees political appointees and vice versa. It's a clear attempt, in the case of losing the election, to fire anyone competant and make it impossible for Biden to replace any of his high level appointees. The part I don't understand is if it was an executive order why Biden can't just reverse it with one of his own.

As far as the claim goes once the frivilous law suits are done, the Republican attempt to have electors vote for Trump even though their states went Democrat and finaly once the last throw of the dice by tyeing up state beurocracies so they have to split their votes rather than go with the will of their electorate, yes I expect him to do everything he can to dismantle governmental apperatus to make life as difficult for Biden as possible. If that happens make what you will of his intentions.

Hence they are cheaper to produce WhatdoIknow :-) Seriously though, do we know for sure they can use the same machines they have now to make the 300mm wafers? I agree that would be huge news in terms of scaling up for very little investment.

Surely planting 2 billion trees if Labour had won would have been a good thing but yes The Woodland Trust is the kind of organisation that would jump at this I think. It's a good combination of 2 important green issues.

It would be a unique product. I could see it getting taken up on masse globally. Market could be huge. Let's hope the pull it off.

Interesting potential new product line. I don't believe for a second that the British government is doing anything more than green washing with it's tree planting plans and really intends not to plant a single one but there are many initiatives around the world that might find these products attractive.

I can't say I understand all of it roganjt but seems there are two things. First is that larger wafers equals cheaper production. IQE can either pass the saving on to customers and secure market share or hopefully banish the problem they have with profit margins and keep some of it themselves. No one else has demonstrated that they can produce wafers up to 300mm and so IQE should hold this advantage for several years to come. Extra capacity will also help address increasing demand.

It's not clear whether the new big wafers can be produced using existing reactors or if new ones are needed and so whether they get the benefit in the near term or have to wait and incur costs before they get there. It just says there's a clear roadmap.

The second thing is this bit, "The improved wafer flatness provides additional design flexibility for thicker device architectures required to access longer wavelength VCSELs." I'm lost here but suppose it opens up the possiblities of new products. My guess is that longer wavelength VCSELs would be useful over longer distances. Vehicle LIDAR maybe?

Sounds like excellent news. Really hope that the introduction of larger wafers will allow IQE to increase it's margins both by lowering their own costs and moving into higher value products.

But that's not the way they are. They want the war, they have the upper hand and they don't like the Armenians. They're not going to behave reasonably.

There was a shortage of candidates Wondergoal. Not expecting any news on COVID until the start of next year at the earliest IMO. Q4 has turned into as soon as reasonably possible. From the interim results,

"As the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved in the UK, case numbers and hospitalisations have fluctuated resulting in unpredictable recruitment rates across all clinical trials in the field, including but not limited to 4D pharma's Phase II trial in patients hospitalised with COVID-19. As previously reported, the Company initially expected results from this trial in Q4 2020, though this will be dependent on future dynamics and case numbers. The Company continues to evaluate strategic options to support enrolment, and looks forward to announcing data and findings from the study as soon as reasonably possible."

It's probably not a high volume business at the moment but must be growing with the automation of distribution warehouses.

If IQE confirm they have ordered any new machines it will take us up to the next level.
