I have no particular axe to grind but find the posts and debate interesting.
Gate13 is an outlier, the blinkers are on so tightly it must be painful. His inability to debate a point is ledgendary and he will drag in an unrelated statement Commie / Corbyn etc as he lacks balance and in the main knowledge and facts either side of the debate.
He should also learn to pause and reflect before posting most of his responses are within less than a minute. His time would better be spent working for the emergency services.

Nothing also to stop WT applying to world wide profits - the supplementary rate does so why not WT ?. Only issue is releif from double taxation in the country of the oils origin.

Really value your posts. I just can't believe press has not picked up that next day price of 40p and forward of 180p. Is materially lower than the 300p price cap.
Lots of variables but at these levels.
HMG make a profit and negate need for spending cuts. What am I missing Truss needs some good news at PMQ. Is this not good news. I know it stretching it and shes awful but she could claim credit ?

Based on KTOB next day YTD of 198p to 14th October and the 175p in the iterims. The inference d Next day 1st July to 14th Oct is 277p per therm.
That's 56% more revenue than the interim for a three and a half month period.
Very little reaction to it but I think it's excellent.

Did some research the other day - government pensions are funded by payments from workers now. Gross payments in 22/23 were £50bn. Restricting increase to 5% [ the same as most private funds ] would save £2.5bn on ex government employees. Half of what restricting the state pensions to earnings would save.
You heard it here first but - ex government pensioners cut to 5% I don't think will create a fury with perhaps state pensions circa 8% increase.
Also next day price for gas is 30p a therm the cap is set at 300p (yes you have read that right its unbeleivable ). Futures are 230p and dropping. The energy guarantee might actually cost nothing unless they have signed contracts over the 300p cap.

Price is low due to markets. TO value for me is easily £5 plus

Interesting the HMG cap is theoretically cost neutral at 300p per therm which is the same as the 10.3p we paying in our bills per KwH (Nat west Markets)
There view is hedges above 300p will need to be honoured.
My previous post based on KTOBs info shows Q3 revenue being 58% higher than the interims based on Q3 price of £2.77 a therm.
I probably over think things but 300 per therm would be a roaring sucess for HMG and mean a 75% revenue hike compared to Interims for SQZ.

The inference is price 3.5 months to mid October is 277. Plus 58% revenue . All of this based on your 198.
Even with windfall tax hitting in full in H2 this is an excellent result.
Out of interest anyone know what the price per therm needs to be for the government contribution on the energy cap to be nil ? Bet Truss is praying for it

Checkin - when you refer to Health what services provided by Saga are you referring to ? They sold Patricia White and Country cousins two years ago. I thought that divested them from health / nursing.
You also posted that they could make £100m from asset sales. You mentioned buildings which have been on sale for two years what other non core assets could they sell ?

The insurance ratings are good when you compare to other major providers on Trust Pilot.
On cruise your trust pilot has only 112 reviews mostly awful and a 1.5 score. However if you click on the overall summary they have 33, 545 Saga reviews and a very acceptable 4.6.
Riveriara does well at 4.3.
The rotten egg at the risk of being a broken record is Titan or Tour with a horrendous score of 2.8.
Useful stuff to look at but confirms Tour makes no profit and its customers are unhappy with it service. Needed putting out of its misery years ago !!

You more than most have kept the faith and we have had lots of conversations. In July 21 - Saga was £3.80. You were comfortably predicting a rise to £15 in three to five years time. I was calling a £6 party in York.
Like me you must have lost buckets. Don't you have any doubts ?
Looking at the bigger picture three things strike me
- Tour is a dog no contribution and should be sold / shut down. Only correct call I made and have said for years.
- Cruise has had hiccups- covid cruise that was called back., two 90 days cruises cancelled and replacements having a small selling window. Ukraine issue re baltic and black sea cruises.
- you I and others thought insurance would continue to be a cash cow delivering £140m into the future. That's not proving to be the case and whilst profitable its less than halve of that. The only poster who called this three years back was Value wise who seemed to have a good grasp of all the metrics. His comments were only on insurance.
I really hope 72 is the bottom but you and I have been calling the bottom for nearly 18 months.

The current widfall tax is on UK production only.
The decion to raise CT should not impact us as our tax is fixed at 40%.
I'm hoping common sense will prevail (Hunt is good) and additional tax is on UK listed companies profit whereever it is generated e.g BP with an allowance for WT.
For me the direction of travel is no change.
