I was reading an article on a 'new' SKY streaming box and the reviewer mentioned the ITVX app as being clunky & slow when using the SKY box to access the ITVX app.....apparently iPlayer was better (but not perfect). This was quite disappointing.
I suppose the reviewer may have been referring to an old ITV app (Hub?) but they did mention ITVX at least twice. I suppose they may have been using the beta version and things may have improved for the full release.
Would be a huge disappointment to have a fanfare launch and people find the app is slow & not fully featured....I would prefer if they had said it was 'state of the art'.
Fingers crossed for launch date tomorrow!!
PS Not sure about the TV adverts I have seen promoting ITVX (Matthew Macfadyen)....they seem to be taking the mickey out of it!! (but I suppose it is aimed at a younger audience)

Rylidan, I was thinking the same thing. The most highly paid footballers in the world, arguably the premier league in the world & yet the goal of the national team is apparently set artificially low. Rubbish....we want to win everything. Just expectations have been eroded by past experience & current management ethos of 'under promising & hopefully over delivering'. The English pretend not to care whether the English team succeed but really we do. Past disappointment has taught us to pretend we don't care....but really we expect to win at everything.

That would be nice. But we have heard the 'dividend' rhetoric before....and there is always something to spend the cash on e.g. another processing plant & mine infrastructure at Teren-sai....an even bigger company yacht!!

Strike, what deramping?.....I think you are confusing a different view to your own as being negative. A short term blip in profitability due to an event every 4 years isn't going to impress the market. However if people start using ITVX during the world cup and continue to use it afterwards then that would be different....but we won't know that until the figures are released next year sometime.
There is a difference between wishful thinking and hard numbers IMO.

In theory this should remove one of the shackles that has been holding back ALTN for many years.

Strike, I suspect the investment is ongoing!!...it won't be a one-off charge but mostly an investment spread over a certain time period and continuing into the future. ...maintenance, running costs, upgrades etc etc.
Hopefully new business will exceed the increase in costs.

I like she is at least trying to fix some of the problems at ITV and seems to be making progress. I expect part of her problem - same with many organisation - was a lazy middle management living on past glories. The 'fact' that she said there had been no investment in tech (apart from emails) was shocking....and when she tried to correct that mistake the market reaction was also shocking but predictable. Short termism.
It is very difficult & expensive to play catch up with tech....but at least she is astute & tough enough to fight for her strategy, rather than just collect her pay & build a big pension. She sounds like a breath of fresh air.
I expect when/if the UK economy improves the SP will improve significantly....might even see 99p by 2025!!

Lasrerbrain, I don't have anything specific...other than it is run by the Patriarch. He has sons, one of whom runs ALTN.
There was a rather strange interview with the ALTN son where he discussed the antics of a sibling & it sounded a little odd, he distanced himself from such behaviour (sorry, don't have a link).
They want to be seen to be doing things correctly. Lots of building schools & investing in local communities....they probably plant trees too. But I suspect the father has the final say.
Recent clash with the auditor who got upset, something about handing over money to contractors before work completed & no signed contracts....probably the Kazakh way!! But the work was done, apparently.
In the past Pan African have invested quite heavily in ALTN by buying shares, but that source of funds has dried up.
ALTN now need quite large amounts of money to increase gold production. Seems to be taking ages. Also there are bonds to repay quite soon (£10m I think). So not for widows & orphans IMO.

Marc, you might want to consult your financial advisor or someone you trust who knows what they are talking about. Taking advice from forums probably isn't the best option. There are probably tax implications.....and it obviously depends on the amount invested.
Holding shares in a company that cannot be readily traded may not be for everyone. Personally I have no experience or advice to give. Best of luck.

Mr Math, I'm not sure I understand the link between high inflation and increasing SP for LGEN.....entirely my fault.

Aren't we talking about football managers? I have yet to see a football coach who can please everyone, especially during difficult times when they are rebuilding the team. Score a few goals to get things moving in a positive direction and the naysayers will soon lose their voice.

MrMath, what do you think would be the drivers? Given the SP performance over the last +10 years it would require some exceptional performance to reach 390p (assuming they don't have the share consolidation I suggested). Have you seen any analysis of the next few years suggesting an increase in business & profits due to changing demographics or regulatory environment etc?
I suppose the end of low interest rates could be a driver but I haven't seen any figures yet for LGEN.

I see he still hasn't figured out how to filter people!!.....didn't Neil say he had £1,200 burning a hole in his pocket & ready to invest in DMTR?

Presumably people following Neil777's advice to buy into the spike....or perhaps it was the man himself!!

I wonder if this is the hugely anticipated spike?
To be honest I don't quite understand the mechanism of todays RNS and the SP rise. I can only assume it is the 'large investors' being generous because the placing price could have been much lower. It's almost like..."We want the whole company when it goes private, here is 4p take it or leave it?!"
