You are forgetting the basic supply and demand constraints, It’s more expensive to rent than pay a mortgage now in many areas, plus there has been pent up demand and a lack of overall housing for too long, the gov will ve making more announcements in the ny to bolster the market. They have put their political credibility on house building, it’s true rates will be higher than many were hoping but I’m seeing many of my friends in their 30’s accept this now and start to look to buy. I expect 20’s next year. We are lucky for the current buying opportunity. Similar commentary via uk investor podcast this week also btw. All the strong fundamentals are in place.

I think Draftkings are starting to look at this again, given the previous interest, their strong position, and desire to expand, compounded by a stronger $. Stay tuned... If you recall a main reason they walked away last time was due to uncertainty and the Gambling Commission / GVC probe. Like it or not, we now have mostly clarity and a very cheap price for a buyer. I do doubt though 150 will be offered again, but we can hope

Huge volume of calls going to financial advisors right now, plus FT today's reports the new rules around pensions will likely lead to a much greater interest in annuities. Since AV offer both services, shouldn't the current chaos be good for business? Thoughts?

Huge increase in annuities interest has been predicted as a result of the budget impact on pensions, reports in todays FT. Quoting Tom McPhail, director of public affairs at consultancy The Lang Cat 'changes would also likely lead to a “big rise” in the number of people taking out annuities, which have a guaranteed income, because they would look “more attractive to optimise the lifetime value of the money” rather than face a double tax charge.' This would be of benefit to PHNX.

Probably the best opportunity in the FTSE right now. Should be a steady rise, though who knows with this , could be 90's before you know it. Should be fun to watch now no more immediate surprises

I’d agree. If I were a betting man.. I’d say worst case small increase, maker may (over)react briefly before it goes higher, be it never to 150+ offers again.

Good article, pointing out how the anti-gambling tax proposal looks un-credible, with the whole proposal filling just four paragraphs, zero modelling undertaken. The proposal 'looks like it was written in the pub on the back of a beer mat' and is fantasy.

Also pointing out the gov have been bombarded by lobbyists to increase duty on everything from flight tickets to tobacco companies.

With no more 'noise' apart from sole guardian article, and given gov tends to consult industry or look at modelling, plus the response 'don't believe everything you read in the papers. I’m starting to think no such tax is coming, or if there is it'll be likely small with this already backed into the current SP.

Does anyone know if Entain also reported 'customer friendly results' , I think this has spooked the market a bit, since it feels like its always an excuse with this lot. Same thing last year, and then the marketing impact surprise in H1. I'm not too worries though, even if the budget has higher taxes the industry will likley consolidate, this will be a prime target for someone

Understandable bit of a tree shake so far this AM, but 'should' head up soon after and will probably bounce around til post-budget. Looking like the budget will be little to worry about, maybe some minor increase in tax but nothing in the scale the market reacted to. Long term, no change to outlook expected

Second time this week the gov have downplayed the Guardia article rumours. Results acceptable on first look.

Let's hope so. EVOK seemed to hint low retail footfall was hitting the broader industry in their last calls. Which quiet frankly was a load of BS looking at competitors. They have no excuses now.

The main thing I ask is are people ceasing booking flights? Has the post-covid trend gone away or likely to? I also see a pick-up in business travel which should be much bigger in 2025 and more favourable for non-budget airlines and high margin seats
