What we know for sure is food and welfare standards are not protected, we know they have been doing dodgy deals for PPE & track and trace, we know they signed trade with japan which May increased GDP by 0.07 % with tighter controls over state aid and agreements which mean Japanese cars don’t need to be built in the U.K. any more, but the success is we can sell cheese to a nation which doesn’t eat dairy...

EMM - yes agree under valued currently & agree there is momentum. My guess is lots of the valuation is based on perception or sentiment. Deal or no deal outcome is very sentiment based.

If it was an honest government I would say the departure of Cummings might indicate a deal, but the theatrical nature makes me think otherwise

Apologies for the trade deficit lecture, I’m used to leavers arguing simultaneously that a trade deficit is a bad thing and reason to leave, whilst simultaneously arguing that the U.K. needs / wants these imports as somehow “they need us more”. It’s ridiculous. But like “taking our jobs “ & “ taking all our benefits” at the same time. See similar here, Fleccy says post Brexit U.K. becomes manufacture, Emm says financial & service industry, which is already part of our trading options

& carrington - Pharfish is correct he is treating EU as one economy, the EU as a whole the U.K. equates to only 6% of exports, even though individual countries like Germany exports lots, although I understand U.K. export market to Germany is diminishing quickly

Hi Carrington - what exactly is wrong with a trade deficit? I see it as evidence U.K. likes products Germany make and have the wealth to buy them.

I see nothing wrong with a trade imbalance when there are no or little tariffs. With trade barriers I fear for prices and businesses including U.K. manufacturing costs because this imbalance will cost U.K. consumers or businesses, this is one of the things wrong with a WTO deal, increased costs in and more expensive goods out.

Hi EMMJANE - I think the impact on BT will be the actual or perceived secondary or tertiary impacts on population / business wealth. It will likely be the economic down turn and then decline, as opposed to the trading environment, although data protection & cyber security ambitions may well feel the primary affects. Unless of course Fleccy is right & it’s an economic bonanza.

Fleccy - your point & conclusion was based on a misunderstanding of economics, trade and currency. A’la straight out of the daily express. How many economics degree courses have you failed? It’s a fair question to ask when you promote an entirely contrary economic description of a no deal? Or any deal outside the EU for that matter

Hey Velo - surely decline in revenue is the measure which shows a business is in decline. Profits can ebb and flow, investing for the future etc.

Most things I read online point towards revenue being the measure they are interested in.

I guess a company can be in decline but increase profits by cutting costs or doing less. Revenue is an absolute measure of doing business

Not withstanding the adage of revenue is vanity, profit is necessary & cash is reality

An American trade deal is mainly symbolic for the U.K. at best I read it’s likely to increase GDP by only 0.2%. That’s because America already buys from us what it wants, and trade deal won’t change that much

In the other direction though it’s a different story, lower food and farming standards opens up new markets for their producers.... the NHS, health insurance, drug prices, all these things explain why silly people have been force fed Brexit.

Some of the things being written about Biden suggest he might be the antidote to lies and liars. His people already recognise Bojo as a shape shifting creep & Kamala sounds like she won’t be able to hide her hatred for him and what he doesn’t stand for

I have no doubt the US will begin to forge relationships with Europe around a distrusted parter.

U.K. is in trouble, in so many ways. The only thing that is not known is if we have any friends who think we are worth helping out of the gutter & whether dishonest, ignorant citizens will let them.

I read on twitter directly from high level democrat accounts they dislike Bojo & don’t forgive his racial slurs about Obama.

One comment from Obama’s communication man in response se to Bojo congratulations tweet, responded by calling him a shape shifting creep.

None of this is good. There’s little room now for a short term, dishonest approach.
