The reality is every trade deal ever written involves cooperation, negotiation and rules (you want to call sovereignty, because it makes your nationalist bone quiver). This agreement involves rules and punishment for non compliance of these rules

The only exception any where in the world (far as I know) is with the EU, where they provide tariff free, easy access to 30 of the poorest economies, so they can access the largest trading area, improve their circumstances through trade.

By ratchet you mean the EU will apply specific and limited trade barriers to the specific area of trade affected by the UK’s trade breach, rather than everything

When two sides agree the terms of their cooperation, not honouring that agreement will have consequences

In terms of trade with the EU, that’s controlled by highly respected and fair courts & the consequence is a change in trading relationship

Go ask China if they thought Trumps tariffs were lightening and fair ?

If you enter into an agreement over trade (willingly) and you Brest those rules or are perceived to break those rules, the other side will increase tariff or stop / prevent trade. Go google. “Trade war” You will find recent examples with America, Russia, China, Australia & UAE

The Eu is free to exceed these (as a member can) or choose to have their trading relationship adjusted. Just as Canada would. Exactly the same as any trading arrangement....

Obviously it would be super dishonest to then not include these realities in your argument. Same as you need to include the state aid rules the U.K. has willingly signed with japan, without batting an eyelid & that breaking those agreements with japan, would result in ..... how would you phrase it? ..... punishment? Yes it is dishonest to say that. Galileo is for Eu member states. It relies on all kinds of agreements, for instance data sharing and security. Part of a raft of cooperation, the U.K. screams false “sovereignty “ claims against.

Rather than negotiate a path to cooperation, the U.K. went away in a hissy fit, bought the wrong satellites & threatened to develop a spoiler product.

Surely I do t need to explain why leaving the EU, no longer being a member, then threatening to sabotage Galileo is different to your description

& by the way both, the only reason these negotiations are on going is because the U.K. had chosen to keep looking for a dishonest deal. The U.K. has been free to leave for 3 years.... yep 2 years, the EU has not hold over the U.K. at all, they can just go.

I’ve just delivered actual facts, which could be used to form an opinion / judgement on which side of this negotiation is behaving badly.

There’s only two options here, either

U.K. didn’t read it or understand it, yet you have faith in their ability to deliver anything

U.K. signed it in bad faith, but you continue to think they are trust worthy

Only one side has threatened to break international law & it goes on and on

We also know things like the U.K. has signed a deal with japan which has tighter state aid rules than the EU asks for, but that’s a different, dishonest kind of sovereignty
