In other words, if you need a Kent access pass, but don’t have one, you will be stopped from passing through Kent to the port of Dover........ that’s a border.

You can’t have a border without customs checks, the two things are interdependent, you can’t have one without the other. Extra Customs checks in (and other things) becomes a border, a restriction a point of checking

At either side of this administrative border, there are different customs / trading rules, one side is EU, the other is the U.K. internal market

This describes the conditions applied to trade within the U.K. between NI and the rest of the U.K. & visa versus. New red tape, new checks, new conditions where there were none.

It’s also the case NI will continue to enjoy current trading conditions into / out of EU

The Kent border, requires further checks, it requires transport companies to need a Kent access pass. Again, this border with customs checks makes doing business harder

“NEW CUSTOMS CENTRES
The Duchy of Lancaster, Michael Gove, announced a £470m programme to get facilities set up to process freight going to and from the EU.

The Guardian reports there will be 10 to 12 new border customs and controls sites across the country which will handle up to 400m customs declarations a year.

Though the government is still in “commercial negotiations” for the sites for the facilities, the Guardian also reported last week that a 27-acresite on the outskirts of Ashford had already been purchased.

Five of the sites are likely to be in Kent, with Ebbsfleet International and the disused Manston airport near Ramsgate under consideration. They are expected to be operational by 1 January.“

Hi Ray - yes I remember all the oil money and arguments scotland could pay for itself, but none of that was contracted was it? EU membership was specifically part of the manifesto for the Scottish vote, that’s why I call it a material change

There are other horrendous issues facing scotland in the now too, which may not give them a choice. Scotland and Northern Ireland compete for investment (so the argument goes).... with NI effectively still in the EU, in terms of trade etc, scotland will potentially miss out.

I personally think they will leave & I don’t blame them. I also can’t see how Westminster can stop them if there’s enough support, they will look like prisoners rather than citizens.

Irish reunification I think is a matter of when now. I see the Irish government is already funding access to Eurasmus, I see this as a very deliberate ploy to muddy the waters
