A list of products and services openreach provide to their customers (not retail of course)
It’s an embarrassment of riches and exactly as described, engineers providing connections things, wholesale customers paying for it. It’s not difficult is it?
I guess this list won’t cover everything. It’s quite a wholesale business, but you already know that. Please note the words “provide” and “products” & “customers”. Obviously not in the retail sense though.
Openreach provides various broadband and network access products, including different types of fibre broadband, copper-based services, and Ethernet connections. They also offer passive products like Dark Fibre and Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA). Openreach is the company that builds and maintains the physical network infrastructure, including fibre and copper lines, that most UK broadband and phone services rely on.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Broadband:
Fibre Broadband: Openreach offers both Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) and Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). FTTC uses fibre to connect the exchange to the cabinet, then copper to the premises. FTTP, also known as Full Fibre, provides a direct fibre connection from the exchange to the property, resulting in faster and more reliable speeds.
Copper Broadband: This includes services like ADSL (Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line).
Network Access:
Ethernet:
High-bandwidth, point-to-point connections for businesses needing to extend their networks.
Optical:
High-capacity services for organizations needing to move large amounts of data over dedicated fibre connections.
Passive Products:
These include Dark Fibre (unused fibre optic cables) and PIA (Physical Infrastructure Access), which allows companies to access Openreach's infrastructure to build their own networks.
Other Services:
Wholesale Line Rental (WLR), PSTN, ISDN2, ISDN30: Traditional voice services over copper lines.
Local Loop Unbundling (LLU): Allows other providers to use Openreach's local loops to offer their own services.
Exchange Based Products: Allows providers to place equipment in Openreach's points of presence (POPs).
