The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring Jeremy Skillington, CEO of Poolbeg Pharma has just been released. Listen here.
Just seen this on news. Premiership are threatening to kick these teams out of premiership & all U.K. competitions, I can’t see any of these teams risking that for anything, never mind an unproven competition
I didn’t know that. Sounds like a big blow to any of the traditional outlets BT sport being one of them. I can only assume sky & BT will just have this service in one of their packages like they do for Netflix now?
I think you’re getting confused about networks again. Those speeds will only ever be backbone, co-ax is only the last leg into the home, apart from where it is now fibre for cable networks.
Networks have a hierarchy for a reason, the backbone has to run at multiples of the access layer, otherwise none of this stuff works. The arguments you make are characteristically bogus. For instance why would you ever need those data rates in the access layer and how could that ever be supported across a backbone (Coax is only ever in the access layer for cable areas) & this is already gigabit capable. Everything else in cable franchises are already fibre & they don’t “rely” on openreach. They recently for the first time used BT ducts/poles or if they need access outside of a cabled area
For the life of me, a BT / SKY Merger seems ridiculous. I might find myself eating these words, but honestly, to my mind, verging on the impossible. Oil & water, there’s never been a bigger oil & water situation in the history of everything
Trying to second guess the U.K. Telco markets next move?
SKY / COMCAST, I think have little choice, to either closely cooperate or merge or takeover Virgin Media / O2 or Vodafone. I know some think BT, but my honest opinion is BT & SKY are organisations like chalk & cheese, oil and water, but I agree never say never.
Vodafone looks to be in an impossible position now, I think they need close ties with SKY out of desperation now VM & O2 have combined. I always thought Vodafone & VM would merge, because of all the business happening with Liberty in Europe.
I think SKY / COMCAST DOMINANCE & size have options, but VODAFONE U.K. doesn’t anymore
The VM O2 company I think has hurt Vodafone more than any of the U.K. operators.
Thoughts?
It’s all outside existing franchise area.

Might be wrong, but I don’t think there is any case where OFCOm would or could force access to Virgin ducts etc. You are right if it’s not in their commercial interests to open up wholesale services then they won’t. If they are, that’s kind of my point, because in this case the commercial interests of openreach and Virgin are not aligned
I’m pretty sure most people will be able to work out
Openreach cut under these conditions will be vastly reduced, if indeed any of their poles or ducts need to be be used.
Virgin Media will not have their profits cut, this will be a new venture, a new revenue stream which doesn’t exist, until it does
Only loser here is openreach, if Virgin / O2 can only cover their costs or make a small profit.

I don’t necessarily agree with your analysis of a strike. Not until someone can tell me the various service level agreements etc with other operators don’t count during a strike? If they all apply & other businesses who rely on BT staff delivering for their business keep expecting service, I would guess CWU will be in a strong position
I agree public opinion my not get behind it, but why should CWU care about that?
