I don't post often. I'm more of a bystander although I have a large long term holding. I sometimes wander over to the advfn board. This duxy786 bloke is always there, day and night, 7 days a week, posting derogatory comments about tern, most of which are rubbish. Another poster over there - a long term holder - used to be a work colleague of this man, working in the NHS.

Duxy messaged him privately and this other holder posted the message on the board for all to see. In it, Duxy786 confessed to working hard to try and deramp the stock to lower the price and keep it low, because he's building a large position. His theory (and this I agree with) is that the value will appear as soon as the first exit from an investee company happens, and a low price is good because it enables him to buy more.

I've never seen such a sustained and intense campaign of untruths, out of date perspectives and misleading statements, and probably outright lies, to be launched at a single share. The man is amoral and malevolent.

For the record, his other main investment is AMC, where he is a known ramper (and which has completely bombed anyway). So his claims to be on the advfn board and here in order to somehow protect everyone against rampers is laughable. The man's a charlatan. Don't be taken in.

There's evidence by the way that he's part of a small group that's exercising a coordinated campaign, and has been doing so for a long time. I daresay MissAnthrope, who has suddenly appeared here at the same time as duxy786, is one of the gang.

Fingers, I buy or sell shares so infrequently now that I probably wouldn't be a useful test subject. And I just buy shares and hope to sell them at a profit so am not familiar with the other products you mention. I'm a lth of all my holdings, partly because I'm underwater with them! My largest are EMH, TERN and ARL (asx). Once I sell these for a decent profit, I'm out of shares. I may dabble occasionally for fun with modest amounts, but too stressful and too dangerous.

Cheers dvfsm, but I'm not uk tax resident. I simply need to generate verifiable gain/loss figures for an accountant, who then submits it all. The numbers have to be right though.

It's clear the IR receive assessment figures that vary wildly from person to person depending on how they've added up the numbers. I've been trying to apportion buy prices across a given sell, on the basis that I read somewhere that the first shares that are sold must be the last ones that were bought, and work back. But my spreadsheet is turning into a nightmare. There must be a simpler way. I'll take a look at that link Sid, although I hate reading these things.

Not a uk resident, so, although I have an old ISA with some emh in it, I can't add to it. They're sort of in the bottom drawer, especially as they were bought so far north of here it makes me want to weep.

Perhaps. It's sticks in the throat slightly if I bought a tranche of 10k at say 50p, and another of 5k at 35p. and a further 10k at 25p ... So I bought 25000 shares in total and at prices that mean an average of 37p.

So say I now come to sell 8k at a current price of 15p, thereby generating a loss per share of 37-15p. Or 22p.

But I know I paid 50p for that first tranche. So I'm assuming less loss that actually happened, on the basis that when I come to sell the other shares, the different gains and losses will all average out to reflect the average purchase price of 37p.

But that isn't going to happen, because the current price is going to move between now and when I come to sell another tranche, so the second tranche will be sold at a different average.

Ah I hear you say, but you just stick with the original average so it doesn't matter what the current price does. But what if you buy a couple more tranches after selling a tranche? This when I get the vodka out.

Can any intuitively mathematical people on here reassure me that this does all work out in the end? Or how am I supposed to do it?

Yes I know I should know this, but I don't so please forgive me and just tell me the right answer and don't laugh at me :-)

Someone buys tranches of shares at different quantities (say 20k, 10, 6k, 22k etc) at different times over an extended period of several months, and therefore at very different prices. If they come to sell a quantity that's different in size from any of the purchased tranches (say 15k despite the tranche sizes mentioned above), what price does he use as a purchase price to compare to the sale price and so calculate the gain or loss of just that on sold tranche? Given that the sold shares come from more than one purchase tranche and therefore include shares bought at different prices.

Does he draw a nominal average price for all tranches combined, and use that as the purchase price of all shares in every tranche when calculating profits or losses upon selling?

btw, my interpretation of events is that we are headed for a rerate upwards to fair value. I believe that CEZ are genuine in their approach, that there is nothing underhand happening here and that such imaginings belong to a period 12 months ago. Since then the difference between political rhetoric and reality has become clear. Time pressures are increasing. The legal rights of EMH are ever more apparent. Where this share is going may seem to be more binary in potential. But given the balance of influences, there's little doubt in my mind that the potential is more for boom than bust.

No hes not deramping. He's just being pseudo intellectual in pretending a shrewd analysis. There's nothing shrewd in this though. I hope we are already fully cognisant of what he's saying, all know that there is still risk here, and are familiar with the arguments he puts forward. We just don't indulge in intellectual and verbal masturbation by constantly voicing them.

We don't need earache spelling out the details. I think this share is approaching a transformational moment. It's either going to boom, or it's going to fall prey to an aggressive and unsympathetic takeover. Earache believes the odds are in favour of the latter. Otherwise he wouldn't keep emphasising that possibility as opposed to the opposite. Because he's simply someone who dwells on the negative possibility rather than the positive. He's a pessimist rather than an optimist in other words. Must be a great bloke to have a beer with.

I give up. Perhaps earache's right and I should take his advice and jump ship. And take the hit. Stick the proceeds into TERN along with my other cash and sit back waiting to recover the loss. Or perhaps average down in ARL(asx), where investors on Hot Copper understand the potential and are duly optimistic. In which case get prepared for a sell off.

So are you under water or not? If not, go. Get out quick. Because from what you say, it can only be the wise thing to do.

I'm underwater. I first bought in about july 2016. And carried on buying. I sold my first shares at a loss a couple of weeks ago to buy my son a car. My average is way north of here. I bought on both AIM and Frankfurt.

You really need to step back a bit and stop being so pompous.

So that's it? No optimistic take? So please sell up and bu99er off and stop aching my ear. On and on and endlessly on. Go. Sell. With your sentiment about this share, what on earth are you doing here?? You have to make a decision. Either you believe what you've written here and you therefore sell up and disappear. Or you adopt an optimistic stance and shut up with the negative perspective stuff. One or the other. Spouting the end of the world whilst simultaneously holding on because you presumably think it'll come right does not make sense. One or the other.

Of course there are risks. There are risks with every share. When you invest you accept this. You don't then keep harping on endlessly about the risks and negate the positives. What is the point in that? . The current odd sells could/maybe/possibly might be CEZ shorting the stock to get the price down. Or it could be someone stocking up. There... a choice. Should I now spend the next fortnight howling about the former possibility without mentioning the latter?

I'm not disputing that what you say may be the case. It may be. I don't know. Perhaps I'd better sell up. You'd certainly notice the consequent drop in price if I did. But your advice seems to be for me to do just that.

uncleal, had my sentiment not got the better of me last year, I'd be better off now to the tune of several hundred grand (from TERN) Isn't it always the way?
