Mentioned this last year, the market is IMV now beginning to question this. Read what MAB have to say today re the final dividend.

There were approx �90 Million worth of BT.a shares traded today, that's just LSE volume. Any views expressed here have negible to no impact on the SP.

The point that the dividend is covered except for.. X Y Z, is the logic of Alice in Wonderland. There will always be a need for continual large investment by BT, and mountainous pension contributions are not ending anything soon. How much is net debt going to rise in the next 12 months?. This debt does not disappear, it's not magiced away down some rabbit hole. This is before you even consider the potential harm to BT's longer term credit rating, which has a bearing on the rates paid to service their debt.

BT is in a cycle of continuous investment, debt IS increasing. The current dividend looks unsustainable over the medium term imv. You can't fool the market, the current % yield indicates this- all Just my view only.

At �5 did �4 seem likely?, At �4 did �3 seem likely, at �3 did �2.50 seem likely .. No one knows the future, so people should stop pretending they do. There is No guarantee the dividend will be held, there is an intention to maintain the payout, which is very different. Net debt(outside of the pension deficit) IS increasing. Your divided is being partly funded by increasing debt, it's la la land stuff imv, particularly given the pension funding requirements.

Agree, and surprised our esteemed Chair has not driven that agenda.

Sentiment certainly plays a part - look no further than RMG, around 70% higher than the share price slump. However, fundamentals are the longer term drivers of share prices, and fundamentals for BT have dimmed considerably over the last 2 years. Now you either think the current SP factors that in, or not.

Surprised that new Chair did not push for a dividend cut. If you cut the dividend, coupled with staff redundancies, then your position is strengthened with the regulator, imv.

A dividend cut, leaving a more sustainable dividend is a positive, not a negative. What BT are effectively doing atm, is paying a maintained dividend by increasing debt, never a good strategy- unless it's for a very short timeframe only. I've given this a weak Sell as see risk to the downside currently, however I'm just guessestimating, like everyone else.

That's what the market appears to be signalling. Dividend cut with a new CEO, or dividend rebased as it's referred to now.
