"France is one of the few countries to have set specific RNG targets, namely, to produce 1.7 TWh (5,802,025 Dth)
RNG by 2018 and 8 TWh (27,303,650 Dth) RNG by 2023. The government has set a 7-10% target for RNG in the
grid by 2030. Biogas will account for 7% of gas consumption by 2030 if it can be produced at €75/MWh"
"In September 2020, there were 1,147 RNG projects targeting operation within the next 2-5 years. There are at least
200 plants already in construction to come online in 2021-2022."
"For the biogas plants, there is little difference between RNG and cogeneration plants regarding financing sources. Subsidies represent more or less 10% of the investment, bank loans (and sometimes crowdfunding) being heavily used at 70%, and the rest made up by own financing from the plant owner(s). A couple investment funds started operating in the sector in 2019."
"The government is interested in promoting RNG for transport, particularly for HDVs, but has not developed a
specific policy at this time. The number of NGVs in the transportation sector is expected to increase from the
current 15,000 to 300,000 in 2035, in the most conservative scenario. The most optimistic scenario indicates
1,000,000 NGVs by 2035"
