ukmoe - no the idea is to fit inland container ships with VRFB flow batteries then refill with already charged electrolyte at the destination by mooring alongside a VRFB recharging vessel that spends all day recharging its electrolyte whilst the container ship is wending its merry way along the river. Makes installing the infrastructure a doddle, simply chug up, moor and connect the recharging cable. That way you can take your time recharging the electrolyte.
The insurance guys seem to like it because it is less flammable than every other form of battery or 'green' fuel. Vessels are already being built.
