I expect that there are limited things that the company can do, especially if they yearn to have a main market listing. Remember the stock market is not run by the government it is run by a private company and uses the services of numerous other private companies, all in a tight-knit little group based in the city of London.

They do not exist to provide any kind of service to investors or to companies but instead to line their own pockets. They have set the rules up precisely to achieve this end. Government, whilst it stands by and does nothing, is a willing participant in this charade, until the next major scandal, when they will simply put an ex-judge onto it to try and smooth over the worst cracks in this failed casino of dreams.

For those who were not here 3.5 years ago the 18th August 2017 was a seminal moment. This was a Friday before a long bank holiday weekend - there was a flash short then in an attempt to gather shares from holders:-

The day following the publication of that complaint there were multiple aggressive reductions in share price - draw your own conclusions.

The price paid for shares has been rising steadily all morning - though this was covered up by the opening UT

Uksteveg - each trade does not have a buy and sell element if you are meaning that a Buy is from a market maker and a Sell is to a market maker.

If you mean that each trade has a buyer and seller then obviously that is a trivial and ultimately meaningless observation. We refer to Buys and Sells in relation to the Market Makers because that determines how many shares they have or need, and since they are the ones that determine the advertised Share Price their position is deeply pertinent.

jimbo - I don't think they are real trades with PIs but rather inter-Market Maker transfers. Just there to throw people off the scent.

I see that yesterday's heartfelt request for shares for the 'key-worker' market makers has managed to yield up a total of 40,000 shares for them. Come on guys I know you can do a lot better. Just imagine that you had turned on the computer and the SP showed 16p and there's all sorts of posters complaining about what Fortune had for breakfast - if you would be selling in that situation please find it within your hearts to sell now and thank me later for the 4p extra profit I got for you.

Each additional $1,000 per tonne brings in more than additional $40,000 profit per month. Half a million per year. So it should add maybe 5 million pounds to the SP - that alone should add 0.5p to the share price immediately.

However the important point is what this says about the longer term structure of Tin supply market. Stockpiles are almost completely exhausted and tin is being used in increasing amounts in the electrification of transport and energy markets.

This is not just good news for ATM right now it is even better news for the future expansion of the business because it signals that we are in a commodity in structural tightness and we are bringing back to life what was once the world's largest hard rock tin mine - there are not many that can stake that claim.

daitom - the key thing is that Engie appear to be taking over the Xina thermal solar projects from Abengoa

That leaves Abengoa with the ability to concentrate solely on PV solar. Just in time to be able to pick up a chunky solar+storage project utilising a key storage component from one of South Africa's up and coming energy players.

Those who have been watching this story unfold know what is coming next.

jimbo - I think these trades are connected with one another and represent a transfer amongst different market makers. There have been multiple periods during the day when there has been an inverted spread - which is the kind of problem that the market makers end up with if one of them is in serious trouble, needing to buy, whilst another thinks that they can play a spike-then-shorting game for just a little bit longer.

The consolidation would go a lot quicker if people could help out the market makers by giving them a few more shares. They are really struggling right now.

But who is to undertake such a charitable act ?

I think it should be anyone who would sell if the price fell to 16p tomorrow. I'm not fussy that can be those who bought shares on tick at 16p or those who would be rushing to the closet to get their rubber incontinence pants. Either way if you would not hold at 16p on wednesday I suggest that you sell on tuesday at 20p. Thanks.

pekingduck - please can you point me to some proof to back up you claim that the company has paid creditors with shares.

Sanchez - they thought that they could close their 24p short at 20p but the repeated buying all the way down and at 20p has given them a problem, so they have a choice - try and tough it out for a bit longer or try and raise their average short sell price by allowing the price to rise. The trouble with the latter approach is that people seeing the price rise may pile in even more and the length of their short position will get even longer.

I believe that they don't take a position on the type of news that will arrive - as that would require proper research, instead they simply assume that both positive and negative new can arrive and if it is positive then they simply don't move the price and if negative then they hammer the SP down hoping to skewer any leverage positions or investors who have not bothered to do any research. We have, of course, seen exactly this type of behaviour in the last 3 years.

UksteveG and DBB - I do not think that these are real sells from a shareholder. Their specific sizing and the fact that the market makers do not currently want to appear to allow the price to go up even when buyers turn up in their droves lead me to the conclusion that these are simply holding position short sells - i.e. sell a bunch of imaginary shares to make it look like they are running a balanced book, but whilst they are extending their short position.

I expect them to try and close their short position with a dramatic drop in price on the very first non-positive piece of news. Those holding leveraged long positions, or with stop losses in place, you have been warned.

also never a good idea to wait until the last week in January. The Market Makers always mark down prices to catch out those who are so ill-prepared with their finances that they are forced to liquidate shares days before the tax bill needs to be paid.
