Everyone laughed at a lot of things in the 70s that fortunately they don't laugh at now. My parents were fairly ahead of their time but still did and said things that made me cringe when I look back and they were good people too.

As a fan of Mock the Week and most comedy, however blunt or gross, know of Frankie Boyle but not his material per se - I'm not a fan of PC gone made but at the same time anything that incites hatred or prejudice or causes hatred or prejudice to continue is not OK with me. I believe he's mostly a political and social commentator but I may be wrong ... so I'm not a fan of Bernard Manning if that gives you a scale.

Actually Tardigrade, it's not funny and if your wife is black as you say, on this anonymous unaccountable bulletin board forum, then let me educate you. Blackface is not funny. It is unacceptable. As is anything which demeans or undermines the wellbeing and self esteem of others - in this case women. Benny Hill was not funny it was exploitative, tasteless and regrettable, oh, and cringeworthy.

Meaning in the spirit of my reply to Tardigrade who said his wife is black, sometimes it does seem like important messages get lost in the midst of PC outrage - and to spell it out further - racism, prejudice and in fact behaviour of any kind that sets out to deliberately offend or demean another is simply unacceptable and should be challenged.

I'm audibly sighing as I write. Yes, Blackface is offensive, however, if you are aware of the various minutes, hours and days that people spend their lives on Twitter protesting outrage that so and so is culturally appropriating my plait, kimono etc. you would better appreciate my post. Mmm, having to balance my reply a bit. While I genuinely feel for the people of the KSA (and I do, apolitical creature that I am) I am somewhat pleased that this may help our pioneers in the FB arena here if you catch my drift. Also following Bloomberg in and out today and months seems certainly more accurate than weeks.

I feel something untoward has happened to you this week as your usual easygoing manner (most of the time - I say that as I recognise a kindred spirit) has been perturbed of late. I wouldn't call Tardigrade it as anyone who choses that moniker shows a certain appreciate of life that deserves respect!
