On the face of it, the virus and the problems it has caused with closed down venues, has played into EVR's hands. (with all respect to the many whose health and livelihoods have been affected.)
But in reality it hasn't. Melody might yet come up with one or two live gigs behind closed doors (though it begs the question, why didn't they cover Elton John in LA) but since last June main focus of attention has been Broadway.
The problem now is, if the world is in trouble then New York is in crisis. Mr Trump has been whistling in the dark.
It's understandable EVR should be concentrating on the musicals as there are several advantages against gigs. There are around 40 theatres in New York. and about the same in London. The venues are fixed and ongoing with most of them showing at any one time. Presumably once Melody's cameras are set up they can remain as a permanent fixture. Most importantly the musicals would seem to be a far more lucrative side of the business. During a normal year Broadway attracts nearly 15 million paying customers. JGO apparently have a database of around 5 million. This is customers on a plate for Melody, without the need for any advertising.
The potential is ginormous, but now we are going to have to wait. The virus will pass eventually, but in the meantime we will have to be even more patient than we have already been. There is always the possibility of an RNS from left field which EVR do from time to time.
