It's actually the other way round Keith, as Melody are acquiring a catalogue/database to add to their VR.

The piece looks to be the thoughts of the writer rather than Spotify themselves. They did have a set-up with VRtify which looks to have fizzled to nothing so maybe they are not so keen on the idea.

But if they are what's to stop them acquiring Melody? At least they would be buying quality rather than an Apple/Next set-up which was like a mechanic buying an old banger for one or two spare parts.

I didn't realise Napster was still around until I googled them after Strayway's post. I remember them for the wrong reasons i.e. falling foul of copyright laws. These days they are 'non-league' against Spotify and Apple.

Are Melody taking a gamble here in hoping to rejuvenate a one-time brand name? They still have to get the name out there as well 'Melody'. And the fundamentals are not exactly earth-shattering.

I suppose the new set-up might appeal to Spotify. They had a link-up with VRtify at one time as a VR arm to their buiness but that seems to have withered on the vine. Then again they could just take out Melody without the involvement of Napster.

I won't say IMO, because it 's a bit difficult to have an opinion. I think we will just have to wait and see what happens. And the SP, when it returns, could be almost anything.

Bit slow catching up with the BB at the moment , I watched the V on Friday but didn't bother Saturday and Sunday. I'm just glad Melody weren't associated with it.
The best bits on Friday were the older footage of Arctic Monkeys and Lady Ga Ga. Great Music with artists who boss the stage. This is how Melody is meant to be - VR in packed out venues.
We await Brixton with bated breath but so far Covid hasn't helped us very much. It's no good some others getting impatient with Melody - it's not their fault.

It will be interesting to see how Virgin do this over the next three nights.

It's also the first chance that I can see for Melody to do some targeted TV advertising . something along the lines of :- 'Coming on (date) from the O2 Brixton (show) in virtual reality via Live Nation and MelodyVR…….' They wouldn't even have to pay for all of it.

And as Melody become more Americanised (born in the UK, raised in the USA) are they planning any similar PR over there? No mention has been made yet of any GMA tie-up this year but despite Covid , it must be possible if they wanted to do it.

But then consider the founders' holdings - 155m and 117m respectively, plus whatever options/warrants they hold. With this much at stake they are going to make this work. It's not as if they can simply cash in their holdings as they are, and walk away from it all. They wouldn't get anything for them anyway.

Covid has dealt us a nasty blow. Indirectly we are invested in high-end musicals i.e. Broadway. This is the sector that is likely to be just about the last to be lifted from lockdown. It is IMO potentially highly lucrative. JG in normal times has paying customers of 15 million a year, with a database of almost 5 million. A Christmas present for Melody.

What some forget (or may be don't want to acknowledge) is that none of this is Melody's fault. Nor that of JG himself. In fact he's entitled to be more hacked off than anyone. I for one, can't wait for this show to get on the road. Hopefully during next year.

Funny variant spelling 'Neftlix' in the BBC piece, but I can't see how they are able to film this musical when Broadway is still in lockdown. Lockdown is lockdown, even behind closed doors.

It does say Mel that it includes 'live musical experiences' so we're entitled to assume that live means live.
It's interesting that ITV are getting the gig as BBC normally do all the music. But even more interesting is that Nikki Lambert has Virgin on her CV, not just Spotify. How big a mention can Melody hope to get? And it's an opportunity for some heavy duty traditional advertising.

I kind of agree Iofas, deciding to go head to head with You Tube wasn't what I'd have expected FB to do.
It's a sideways move and doesn't really seem that innovative. I can't see how it threatens Melody in any way. IMO.

Their mission is to discover new artists, so courting A-listers {which Melody need to do} doesn't seem their priority. And there doesn't seem any mention of live gigs.
It may be that the idea of music in VR on their headsets no longer holds the same appeal. Understandable with the shift towards the smartphone app.

The take out is always going to be debated on this BB. I had thought FB were favourites, but maybe not so now. It will almost certainly happen, sooner or later, because that's how business works, as the four tech bosses told their questioning committee recently. It's not as if they can't afford to buy pretty much what they want.

I look on JG's website regularly for news Lord, since that is all we are really concerned with.
There is nothing in so many words to say his musicals will be back any time soon. The only thing that is clear is that everything for this year has been cancelled, although they have been selling tickets for 2021 shows.

It's almost weird the way covid has been like a massive lottery win for Melody's gigs, but the musicals have been hit amidships
