I suppose the point is that if the testing regime had been green light a lot sooner, we could have kept infection rates down and not be facing the problem we now have in the U.K. population of testing fatigue and scepticism. How do we now encourage people to reinstate their Test & Trace apps once deleted?

It must take a lot of calculations to get the exact right amount of concrete to ensure that there are no gaps between casing junctions or that the bottom of the well isn’t accidentally cemented in, although I guess that in the latter case, they just drill through the concrete plug again.

I have always been a fierce protector of Sir Al’s reputation in the belief that he has been working his socks off to get our test to market in the face of bungling incompetence, false promises and corruption from the U.K. Gov. But since Ophidian’s oracular pronouncement that AS will skip the knighthood and go straight to the House of Lords, a new possibility has crept into my mind. What if Sir Al has been complicit in the Government’s scheme to ensure maximum take-up of the vaccine by deliberately suppressing all news everywhere -in every possible news outlet (apart from the Yorkshire Post - of a top performing, U.K.- produced lateral flow test?

If AS is made a Lord without the revelation of a built behind the scenes, ready to go U.K. mass LFT programme for the coming winter, I will consider him as corrupt as the rest of them.

It never suited the Government agenda to have a really accurate LFT as it would have been seized upon by the libertarians as an alternative to vaccination. Thus we deliberately went with an unreliable one so that testing couldn’t be seen as an escape route. As Neale Hanvey said, they ‘bet the farm on vaccinations’, seeing it as their jewel in the crown. Now that they’ve decided that the pandemic is over, they may well throw a few crumbs to the U.K. diagnostics industry to try and save face.

Well said SD. I hope that if Avacta are not in the running for a Gov order, after all the time and effort that they have put in, that they will join with Mologic and perhaps Synairgen to take them to court for business obstruction.
