I’ve got a horrible feeling that it’s the government that’s holding everything up. Don’t ask me why. I just get the impression that Big Al is trying to tell us that the science works. He’s dropped several hints that the S&S will exceed requirements. So Avacta have done their bit. Now we hear that BBI are apparently confident about the manufacturing side of things, so what else is there to hold it back? Can just imagine SAGE asking for all sorts of amendments: ‘Can you get it to do ‘flu as well?’, ‘Can you neutralise the spit so that it doesn’t unexpectedly leap out of the refuse bin and infect an unsuspecting passer-by?’, ‘Can we have a Tory party logo on it?’ ‘Can you just keep a lid on the news for a while so I can buy shares?’ Any other thoughts?

The other interesting comment is that BBI are apparently pleased with the simplicity of the test and they see no problem in manufacturing it in large volumes.

Given that Putin tested the Russian vaccine on his daughter first, perhaps Boris will engage in a PR stunt with one of his numerous children to prove the safety of anything they want us to take.

It may become like the yellow fever vaccine in that you will be advised to have it if travelling to parts of the world where the risk is still high because it hasn’t been eliminated.

I only hope that the Gov has learnt it’s lessons from the PPE distribution shambles at the start of the pandemic and will rely on the logistics expertise of the army to ensure that testing kits get to the right places on time.
Obviously the Govt will get the first batches of LFTs and they need to deploy them wisely.
To my way of thinking, it would make sense to use the Deepverge real-time sewage monitoring kits to identify regional hotspots and outbreaks in schools/unis, care homes, hospitals etc. followed up with intensive testing of individuals to find and quarantine carriers.
The rest of us will likely have to wait until production has really been ramped up before we can get our supplies. Thoughts anyone?

Why is it a waste of time to educate/reassure people? I do understand the difference between PCR and LFT as well as the difference between antibody and antigen testing. I had simply not heard of a gene test before. And btw I am a she.
