My daughter sent it from Spain as a present. Strangely enough, I actually live in Saffron Walden but have had no success in growing the crocuses!

I recently did a saliva based DNA test with Ancestry.com to find out where in the world my ancestors were from. Instructions provided said not to eat anything for an hour before taking the test. Despite this, I still managed to spit out a strand of saffron into the phial, having previously eaten fish and homemade saffron mayonnaise. Made me wonder whether this would skew the results. But apparently not as Spain (origin of the saffron) did not feature on the list of countries that I hail from!

Keeping pace with demand looks hard. Even now the two biggest test makers, Roche and Abbott, are only aiming to make 100 million tests each month by the end of the year. And there could be problems securing ingredients: a dearth of swabs early in the pandemic slowed production. Abbott’s market capitalisation has risen by $40 billion since the pandemic began. That suggests investors are not worried about a vaccine but are not prepared for any slipups.

“We continue to make very good progress with a rapid antigen test and with the laboratory based mass spectrometry test. We are preparing for the first clinical evaluation of the rapid antigen test and will update the market fully when that study begins.”

Another way of reading this is that we won’t hear any good news on BAMS until such time as we can be updated on the rapid antigen test study.

I think Miles McNulty may have fallen foul of Twitter by dissing the vaccine. His tweet starts:

ODX crashing on the basis of (another) dodgy Guardian article, casting doubt on the accuracy of their antibody test. At least this is one occasion where not having a test yet is good for Avacta. In fact, the more competitor tests are scrutinised and found wanting, the more important it is for ours to be ‘exquisite’.

The majority of my portfolio is in here and AVCT (ouch!). Both companies have NDAs in operation, making investment an act of blind faith. It’s pretty uncomfortable tbh, and makes forums such as this BB with its optimistic and entertaining banter essential to my sanity.

Again, shows why Al is right to take the time to get the test right first time.

Under the terms of the collaboration, LSTM will carry out the clinical validation of the Avacta COVID-19 antigen rapid saliva test in their category 3 laboratories on patient samples. In addition to working with the UK government's CONDOR programme to provide Avacta with access to patient samples in the UK, the partnership with LSTM also provides the opportunity to access patient samples in Africa and South America. The higher prevalence of the disease in those regions means that samples for prospective clinical validation studies are more readily available which, if necessary, could be used to speed up the validation process.

From their SP performance today, it looks like Braveheart reassuring RNS move was a smart one. More chance of concerned/interested investors looking at RNS pages for news than Twitter!
