RE: Douta25 Mar 2025 19:56
Excellent post Pacifo, it’s not been the first delay and this particular one has really made it clear (imo) that they’ve been wrestling with the economics of the project. I say that because as you say the 2024 story was it was being released end of year, but they than began the extra drilling in November / December, around the time he started saying it’d be touch and go for December. Obviously by early 25 they then gave themselves Q1, which is quite a big delay if it’s so close to end of year. And now this final not so subtle clue that pops up literally the week it was due. I’m sceptical it’s otherwise packaged and ready to go as he’s indicated. I also suspect we’ll be fortunate if it’s this year. My impression is there’s more drilling planned, then wait for results, then the rework to the study. Equally it’s all added bale and strengthening the economics so it’s not bad.
Anyway, not being directly critical of Segen, he’s got a job to do and is ultimately protecting shareholder interest. For me it’s just another reminder that what you see isn’t alway what you get on AIM.
I’d also picked up on what I consider fairly conservative language from him re Douta, even in this latest interview he says part of the reason for the delay is because it’s not just an academic exercise as “we believe we have a project we can build and want to build”, which doesn’t scream of extolling the commercial virtues like AIM CEOs usually do. We know he’s quite cautious though.
Final minor whinge from me - I think we’d benefit from a slightly clearer timeline for Segilola extensions. I appreciate its drilling related but it’s unclear exactly how long is left as is and again it would be good to hear him give more direction about whether anything extra has already been assessed. At some point, as with Douta, presumably a line needs to be drawn.
Anyway, the SP held up well and I actually took a few more when the buyers stepped in at 22.95. I’m not a chartist but it looked like the old 23p resistance might be support - a lovely base for when the good news hopefully begins to land. That broker note was a bit skinny I thought!
