Ricfle,
"The flare stack has already had the top section removed for the the transit through Suez last August. The question is will it be replaced?"
Now back home (at computer rather than using phone) and have done a bit of backtrack research. Just for you, old chum!
Of course, the answer to your question is of course it will be replaced. It's a necessity. Part of the kit.
So a secondary implicit question is where, and when?
But firstly, I wanted to answer a couple of questions in my own head, hence the 'backtracking', and just to be sure.
The upper part of the flarestack was still in situ at Gdansk. It comprises 'latticework' about 40 ft long, and of course the burner itself. But it wasn't there when the vessel reached Rotterdam on the southbound leg, for fitment of the turret protection plate. So where was it? Maybe it could have been lashed somewhere topside for the journey, though that would be an engineering kludge anyway, because the framing above the production train surely wasn't built to be load-bearing.
But had to check. Went back and found some photos of the boat under tow, going under the Korsor Bridge (Denmark). Nope, the top of the flarestack wasn't lashed on top.
My guess is that it was transported to Rotterdam separately, most likely simply on the back of a supply boat, for refurb (and maybe fitment of a completely new burner), ready for FPSO's return and removal of the turret plate.
Assuming that's where it will be done, of course. It could be elsewhere, of course, but Rotterdam makes sense.
