Ill be retiring very early and living simply , not working til I drop for more money.

Indeed I have put 70% of my money where my mouth is.

The 30% in Bt warrants me a consistent but never subservient voice.

Fleccy we can’t condense a list to 3 or 4 stocks. A portfolio should include more.

We also should not compare stocks on a 12 month basis.

You of all people know, as you have stressed, that a 12 month short term time frame is no basis on which to compare stocks.

Fleccy, I agree with you on many points, but to show unwavering bias toward Bt stock, as you are doing, is foolhardy.

You Convey to me two characteristics

1. An attachment to this stock

2. A politically motivated economical and aggressive stance towards others opposing stock views. Even with the knowledge I have a similar holding to you.

To conclude, mentioning 12 month competing stocks to you would be futile and egregious judgement

The only thing Fleccy has confirmed for me , is polarising circumstances to degenerate mandy.

Fleccy isn’t as old, and wants to hand his shares to youth.

Mandy is old and wants to realise his investment now.

I’m in my 30s and want an unbiased highly capitalists view return; as much as I can as soon as I can.

Neither Mandy or Fleccys views align with mine.

If you haven’t already invested in Bt , my view is invest elsewhere with a long term trajectory in mind. Other well known ftse stocks will perform better and higher more reliable return.

If you are invested, be prepared to wait and know that current SP is a gift, but don’t overload where there are other better stocks in a depressed market.

These are not short term impacts. They are medium term, at least. If they come to fruition.

Be realistic and not blinkered.

Fleccy , short term isn’t a few years. Short term is up to a year.

Medium term

Is a few years

Long term is decades.

If the dividends are cut or cancelled for a few years that’s when Mandy arguments venture into relevance .

If Bt venture into vod dlg ids territory , that’s when you question investment decision compared to what you could have got elsewhere.

Unfortunately , no crystal ball, and a 1.2bn fine was never expected.

Regarding handy mandy , I can see he’s commenting but I have him filtered.

I have my concerns but if it wasn’t positive I wouldn’t be balls deep in Bt stock.

The stock on its current merits is a very enticing one.

I have said repeatedly my perspective is things are on a knife edge. Any further blunders or geopolitical incidences and we head further south SP wise.

As stupmy states below, to suggest a couple of dividends being sacrificed to meet a fine obligation is very lax on your behalf as a seasoned investor with otherwise stringent expectations.

Fleccy, 600m to 1.2bn will not affect the short term. At best the medium term prospects. For one finances are on a knife edge as they are.

Two, we would tank so wise as the last scandal (Italy) wasn’t all that long ago. It becomes Barclays-esque.

Finally , you mention split purchase. While these may be significant numbers, that’s not how they’re seen anymore, multi purchase and the quad play arena are seen as significant.

Bt will use behind the scenes influence in Whitehall , but even threatening accelerated 55,000 cuts to half the £1.2bn, would still send us below a quid a share

How do these cases usually play out?

Is it a done deal Bt are due to refund 1.2bn

Will they get off without paying anything?

Or is it a case of meeting in the middle and we are due to pay out 600m?

1.2bn would be disaster

I usually agree with Fleccy including divi reinvestment , capex reduction, etc.

However can’t say I agree a 1.2bn fine wouldn’t hurt. The £500m Italian scandal was a car crash in slow motion and at a better point in time for our finances. It had more damage in the following years than the £500m fine alone would suggest.

1.2bn and during more difficult times while we try to get the fibre in the ground and capex down, would be a disaster.
