West wavers on Ukraine proposals to seize Russian assets as reparations
Exclusive: Ukraine lobbying UN and allies to clear legal path for extracting Russian compensation for war damage

Ukraine is facing a battle to persuade its western allies, including the UK, to back its proposal for any peace settlement with Moscow to include multibillion reparations by Russia, in part using seized Russian state and oligarch assets.

Those close to the talks on reparations in London came away with an impression that British enthusiasm in principle for the plan is being weighed against the potential legal and property rights issues involved.

Ukraine accepts that at present Russian state assets overseas enjoy sovereign immunity, but believes this can be changed through national legislation, as has occurred in Canada. It says a second process is required to seize assets of Russian companies or oligarchs.

Liz Truss as foreign secretary expressed support for the idea in principle, but has not repeated the proposal recently.
UK and European sanctions legislation allows states to freeze assets of the Russian central bank and some oligarchs, but does not provide for the permanent seizure, let alone their unilateral transfer to a fund to rebuild Ukraine.

The war isn’t going to end soon. It’ll be going on for years. Just because putin says ‘as soon as possible’ it doesn’t mean it will be weeks. As soon as possible could and probably will mean years.

with everything that’s happened since February , I feel like this non payment is confirmation of death by 1000 cuts. That’s just my gut feeling.

Can anyone elaborate on this non payment sorry state of affairs ?

Despite entering into exploratory talks, BT have failed to come to the negotiating table with any proposals. We are still willing to talk and negotiate but the company must now make a serious proposal. It is clear that we are going to have to create further pressure on BT in order to do this we need the full force of the membership behind the campaign.
We have been planning tactically for further strike action to maximise the impact on BT. We are finalising plans and have arranged a meeting of your local branch representatives next Wednesday 21st September. We will communicate with further details straight after that meeting.
Time to ramp it up!

Very annoying . Divi only reinvested yesterday at 215
Same happened with Bt .. it had been 139p but they reinvested at 146 and now it’s back down to 146.

Fleccy . You don’t pay employees on future performance. You pay them on the previous years performance, if being fair. Bt have neglected to do this for a few years now. Particularly the last two years.
Dividends are paid out on both past figures and future projections.

Employees shouldn’t have to wait for a payrise in years to come for current efforts. Labour isn’t the same as money invested. They miss out on the money they deserve now and they may not be employed by the company in the future.

It’s too simple to say if you don’t like it go and get another job, if you do you never were rewarded for the contribution to the business success. It’s also too simple to say wait for your rise in future, again you may not be employed by the time the rise comes.
