Just why did she, after an unnecessarily long hiatus "do a deal" that was worse than staying in the EU? (according to some)

Well, why else would you do it other than to run the whole proceedure out of steam and drip feed the electorate with the prospect of maintaining the status quo?

I won't be at all surprised if, in years to come, she doesn't end up with a very nice little number in Brussels, all 5 star hotels and First Class travel.
