So if we assume for a moment this article is accurate https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/markets/article-11128083/Britains-debt-payments-derail-cost-living-fight.html And also assume the Tories will faff about playing tax cuts until the next election. Can anyone think of any other future scenario than a one off tax on all pension savings? You can almost hear them now "We can either condemn future generations to years of austerity or we can deal with this now as a Nation together." Except it will be too complicated to tax final salary pensions so not all "together". I just cant shake off the glumness of it all.

Suf "I am a natural born WINNER" If Lloyds has been your main investment since 2009 you missed a hell of a lot of winners. Lloyds isn't something to shout about over that time frame is it?

Suf "When we hit 55p I be sitting on a pot of gold" When we hit 55p I'll probably be drawing the state pension. Sorry, feeling more glum than usual about my Lloyds shares today.

Suf "What's not to like here" A stagnant share price that is the same as it was a year ago, with relatively constrained near / medium term prospects due to the overall sh i te situation the UK is in (hardly Lloyds fault). I have always been fond of the Black Horse logo though :)
"Surely it's far more pleasant when our existing expectation's come true" Depends whether your expectations are realistic or completely deluded. Disillusionment can be a valuable lesson in the latter circumstance.
David/Pippa/Plato Its all fairly harmless i suppose, but with regards to your comment "I have delusional ideas about ownership" You don't need to single out ownership. The first four words sum up your posts accurately.
MV "his name Thomas Sowell a black American. I recommend his work" Agreed he is an intellectual giant. I would like to hear him debate with David Olugosa.
MV I take your point about population growth, but Africa is a continent. Saying "Every young African has two ambitions to fornicate and to get to Europe or America" I wonder if thats is so different to many young men all over the world? I felt like that in my teens and 20's. Seems pretty normal to me. The problem with the "bulge" in under 30s is limited access to education. If this improves I think it is likely to influence women to having smaller sized families. Some commentators believe teh UN projections are incorrect and family sizes are already reducing - see https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/africa-population-narrative-demographic-dividend-by-hippolyte-fofack-2021-10 You may not agree with the authors views, but please don't start dissing him because he is African and therefore has an African name. "I would have thought anyone, brought here against their will or on a pack of lies would jump at a free flight home, but I must be missing something" Trafficking is complicated and motivation varies in different countries. For those who are not complicit in the act, it is unsurprising they would not want to return to a country that could not prevent them from being trafficked, don't you think?
hardup "Well they better get their fecking a - rse in gear" I think an average of 35M shares a day wasn't unusual during the first months. We would only need 42 days to complete the buyback at that rate.
100 days left £531,996,197.62 to spend If all could be purchased at an average of todays share price it would be a total buyback of 4,474,986,240 shares.
