fwiw lloyds are my biggest long term holding. At an estimated 5.4% div for this year it looks a lot better to me than it has done for a while. Think carefully before you buy, do you have enough patience for Lloyds - it has tested mine.

It was £8 when I purchased and has been up and down but a regular payer ever since.
It wasn't a recommendation for now, just an alternative that would have been safer for Pluto.
I am not currently buying shares but prioritising debt repayment.

Do you think you might have been prone to individual conviction buying perhaps?

i think it's quite likely that many in UK will not keep up payments during the highest ever period of energy cost inflation and there will be many more that protest about it. Lots of other things could also change before we get to that point. Perhaps we will see an increase in winter deaths this year as a result of inability to heat homes.

Also National Grid has stood up well over the years.
Boring, but it paid out every year.

When you say rational principles, do you mean building a position with shares in steady blue chip companies? Perhaps with some of your capital split into managed funds? Or did you take out spread bets and CFDs and make wild punts on AIM shares?
Just asking, because £145k is a lot of money for you to have burned.

Agreed. I don't understand their strategy. I could work for them and give this recent performance, no problem.

"maximum savings" yes poorly chosen words, I hadn't meant it would cost lloyds less money in buybacks or dividends, so f'knows why I said "savings". I meant same amount of dividend distributed across fewer shares, implying its of benefit to us lot. Perhaps it's an immaterial difference. Maybe they have a cunning plan to buy throughout the ex div period at lower prices. I will just have to sit tight and see what comment on the buyback from Lloyds appears on Wednesday, if any. It does leave a question mark three quarters of the way through the programme.

It is very puzzling. I would have thought completing purchases (at these prices) would have been a priority to complete by early August. That would enable maximum savings on the interim dividend payments in September.
