RE: Offshore Guyana. Tanager-1 discovery.9 Sep 2025 20:54
Facts: Ranger is a discovery (a.), and we know that Tanager-1 is a discovery in the Kaieteur block (b.)
Neither is worth pursuing as stand-alone wells, but linked together with Ranger as a hub to other wells, it could be very lucrative. At a very rough guess, the two discoveries are about 15 miles or less apart. (c.) How many other discoveries in the same area are needed?
Sometime around April 3, 2023, Exxon applied to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a permit to drill 12 additional wells at the Kaieteur Block. Kaieteur Block partner, Cataleya Energy told OilNOW in April 2023 that the Tanager result is being used to update geologic and seismic data and that an immense amount of work is being done to identify the next prospect to drill.
They already have four production wells up and running in the prolific Stabroek block, so 2 years later, have they evaluated where to drill and are off again, close to Tanager-1? WTE has about a 5% interest in the Kaieteur block, I think.
(a.) Ranger 1, approximately 230 feet (70 meters) of high-quality, oil-bearing carbonate reservoir.
(b.)Tanager 1, wireline logging and sampling data had confirmed 16 metres of net oil pay in high-quality sandstone reservoirs of Maastrichtian age. Preliminary evaluation of the fluid samples from the Maastrichtian reservoir indicated heavier oil than is reported from the Lisa Phase I producing field crude assays. Like Ranger, it was deemed to be non-commercial as a standalone development.“
(c.)Tanager-1: Drilled on the Kaieteur Block, about 46 miles northwest of the Lisa field. The Ranger-3 well is located approximately 136.69 nautical miles (253.16 kilometers) or about 60 miles northwest of the Lisa field.
