Do you think that the Lonmin shareholders will accept the bid if the price of platinum rises? Do you not think that another suitor will not come in with a higher offer? Do you think that now Cyril is President that he would allow Lonmin to fail? Even if platinum fell in the next year it doesn't mean that it won't rise after. After all Froneman has taken Sibanye which as you know a gold miner to the worlds second largest platinum miner. He surely must believe that the price of platinum will rise as he does have to look after Sibanye's shareholders.

The directors are useless. They have proved that time and time again. I am surprised that they have left any value in the accounts. What do you think Sibanye want which they haven't got already? How much do you think it would cost to replace them? Lonmin have decent assets but unfortunately a board of directors that have done an appalling job for the people they are supposed to work for i.e. Lonmin shareholders...

Lonmin's smelters and refineries are almost as large as Impala's which are valued at between $500m -$1,000m. I was being conservative with my $300m valuation as I liked to err on the side of caution.

Well even if the refinery was worth $300m they get the rest for free. Froneman is a good deal maker and he must realise that if this goes ahead at this price this will be his best deal to date.

Yes Ta I am a shareholder. Lonmin has been worked on for ages and the share price has been manipulated. I personally wouldn't be surprised if another party came in but we shall just have to wait and see. If the plat price went up a couple of hundred $ which is easily possible how much would Lonmin be worth. A lot more than the paltry sum its worth at the moment thats for sure. A decent management team could make Lonmin profitable at current prices.

Yes, it should be as outside investors will be more willing to invest in South Africa. What I am trying to say is that another potential bid could come in for Lonmin. If the miners at Lonmin and the Bapo Ba Mogale were interested in bidding for Lonmin don't you think that there could be other interested parties? If they did then Sibanye would be bound to come in with a more sensible offer. If platinum starts to rise in the next few months things will look very interesting here. We shall have to wait and see.

Yes it should be a lot higher. Blind chimps could have done a better job of running this company than the useless directors. It makes you wonder whom the directors are actually working for as it hasn't been the shareholders. Rastuss - Why would one waste their time writing negative views on several bulletin boards for years on a company that they think will fail without having an agenda? If you don't think Lonmin have a future why don't you short it? Maybe you should spend a bit more time researching companies that you think will rise and have a future as that will be much more rewarding... You can fool some people sometime but you can't fool all the people all of the time...

Smart- inv - Have you wondered that perhaps that a certain poster once worked for Lonmin and was sacked or made redundant and has a grudge. I personally ignore posters whom just have a one sided view and offer no balance. His or her aim is to discourage people from investing in Lonmin. For all we know he or she is being paid by another potential bidder or a rival who wants to see lonmin fail so the PGM price rises. Who know's his or hers motive. Just look beyond it and ignore it.

The recent decline is most probably due to sterling's strength against the US$. Having said that the fall seems way overdone for this to be the only reason. Probably US hedge funds shorting in tandem.
